I have a leak in the gland of the red control knob. What sort of seal is in there? Do I need to remove the red knob to get at it? Is it threaded or a push- fit?
Firstly, try nipping-up (i.e. tightening) the gland nut. It sometimes works loose due to the frequent turning of the pricker control. Otherwise, yes, you'll need to remove the knob to unscrew the gland nut. The knob is screwed on but is often very tight. Use two pairs of pliers or similar - one to hold the shaft and the other to unscrew the knob (anti-clockwise). Make sure to use something between the plier jaws and the shaft and knob to prevent damage. Don't be tempted to use only one pair of pliers on the knob and unscrew against the internal stop in the pricker control - you could well damage it. Once you've removed the knob, unscrew the gland nut. The seal is a small rubber annulus inside the gland nut. You can easily cut a replacement from nitrile rubber sheet using wad punches. Otherwise, they're available in Viton rubber from The Fettlebox (top right of the screen) or other places. Hope that helps...
