Tilley Flood Lamp 2

I picked up a Tilley FL2 last year at car boot, it was covered in very fine saw dust which i cleaned of but left the brass dirty, should i clean it. How do you pressure the lamp as it dose not have a pump

 

You have got to be kidding me. That is the car boot find of the [strike]year[/strike] ever. Next you'll be telling us it only cost 50p. Cleaning is personal choice, you have to decide what you want to do with the lamp and what would be appropriate for that purpose. To pump up the lamp, you attach a bicycle pump to the little screw thread sticking out of the cap on the back of the lamp. A very nice lamp indeed, well done, best regards Matt.

Thank for that, now i got to find a pump and try to get it going and im not going to clean it now, it cost £30 but I knew it was different that why i paid it

A fine lamp. I love the authentic look. If it was my lamp I would wait a long time polishing - you can never put it back on.

Nice to see you can still find rare stuff at car boots. I was starting to wonder if I was wasting my time.

 

Good find,,,,,its good enough to resist the temptation to restore , service it and leave it with its war scars...

Hi matt I know but you you cannot rush things I may drop on a few all of a sudden. i just got a lamp going this afternoon nearly done and I have had it 7 years awaiting time and parts but I will post on here if I get my computer back in working order, it died on Thursday so it's in the shop hopefully getting repaired if not its going to cost for a new one!!!!

I'm going to an antique fair tomorrow so fingers crossed it'll be my lucky day. You never know might even drop on another vase lamp but really I only like to buy those in pairs. I guess I've been spoilt.

If you get two of the same colour i'd hate to see you duplicate them , it would spoil your collection , however mine would gladly suffer the ignominious effect seriously it would

Ahh, that's very considerate of you Stu. I have some very dodgy photoshop work that I did around Christmas time and I now know what all six colours would look like together. I could post pics on the forum but anyone who sees the pictures before reading the post might have a heart attack.

 

I feel the need to buy another VL1 but nobody seems to be selling - guess I'll just have to go on a cruise instead...

 

It's been so long since one was listed on Ebay, I think the next one will make a record price, whatever the colour.

 

It will - as long as it's not blue or yellow...

I know where there's a crimson/pink one for £2.5K - but ***k me, that's two cruises...

Tilley Fl2 just sold on Ebay for £1232 but did not have original glass

 

So you may have made a profit on your £30 then. Then of course, your one is in original condition and should be more desirable.

 

That'll keep the seller stocked up in brasso for at least a couple of weeks....

 

I did shed a little tear when I saw it listed on Ebay , beautiful lamp but such a shame that it has been polished to death.

 

I agree - it didn't seem to matter too much when it was fairly commonplace stuff but that's seriously rare and it's goosed.

Anybody know who Juliands is? - and who's bought it?

I was quite interested initially, despite the polishing but as the price went up the attraction waned. Anyway, I've bought something much nicer tonight, so I'm a happy bunny... 8)

 

Was this the same FL2 that sold a few weeks ago for £150 but polished up?
