I am sure that many of you have wondering how to secure pack your lanterns to avoid any damages during delivery. As I know really popular method is putting lantern into "popcorn" etc. We got some other way to secure our lanterns - we put all in hard plastic PCV pipes... those pipes are really realiable and it is impossible to do any damage on lanterns without smashing whole parcels with tubes (which is also really hard). So first we take out glass globe from lantern, then use bubble wrap and put it into pipe. Same with glass globe. Parcel weight is ofc higher than with popcorn and etc. but for sure your lantern will arrive safety. If you got experience with packing please feel free to post here your ways.
I always take the hood and glass out and wrap each separately,,,I use hermes courier in the uk and can send a large box ,for example 45cm x 35 x 35 for £5.99 so everything has three layers of large bubblewrap with plenty of screwed up newspaper filling any gaps..... Hermes are a light parcel carrier, catalog shop/home delivery stuff,,nothing too big or heavy, you'll get more problems with TNT or Nightfreight who carry a lot more heavier parcels.... got a nice TL106 last year,,,,came all assembled in a thin black binbag tied with string,,,didn't stand a chance,,,,postie left a trail of shade glass up the garden path...
I use sections of concrete form tubes, much lighter than PVC and cheaper. Most come in useful diameters and lengths that can be cut down for 2 or 3 lanterns. Vitally important to remove glass globe in all situations!
I am about to ship a package of to the states and intend to take of the glass, wrap it all up in bobble-plast and fixate the lot in the box with buildingfoam. Claus C
Consider putting it to some tube or something reliable, really I saw what they are doing with parcels...
I checked those tubes but it is not so light as I thought.. Can you please tell me what parcel weight is with one lantern + your tube? I mean fully packed. With plastic tube it is about 5-6 kg.
