Here is a lantern I picked up today at an estate sale. Had to wait 1 hour outside in the cold, but it was worth it. I didn't have a Sun Flame in my collection. It is a Model # 3926 and I can't seem fo find any information on that modle #, It is a large single mantle Naptha lantern, I am thinking 500 CP. Unfortunatly the original globe is cracked and there is 2 stress cracks. I am still happy to have it. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks Jim
Hello Jim, are you certain about that model number? There is a model 3920 lantern which looks like your example and is rated at 500cp, Jeff.
Yes it is clearly stamped 3926, I will try to get a good picture of the stamping, although my camera is good for close ups. Jim
This is the best picture I can get with my cheap camera. The numbers are definatly 3926, Not an over stamp. It is possible thay an employee made the mistake using a 6 intead of a 0 and it could be a model 3920. This lantern has seen little use, my guess the owner broke the globe and never used it again. Does anyone know the years these were made ? Thanks Jim
As far as I know, all Sun Flame lanterns were made between 1950 and 1960, but this model number is new to me. Neil may have more information, Jeff.
Interesting. A new model to add to the lists. It can't be 3920 because that is a kero lantern and from the lighting instructions this one has to be gasoline. So it appears 3926 is the gasoline twin to 3920. What is odd is that 3920 is a Sun Flame Appliances product but your 3926 is clearly AGM SunFlame. King Seeley took over SF Appliances sometime around 1955 and I am beginning to suspect that they retained some or all of the SF models and just changed the company name on the labels. So both 3920 and 3926 may have existed as both SF and AGM Product. Anyway AGM SunFlame date from about 19555 to 1960. That is as close as I can call it because we lack catalogue information from the late 1950s. ::Neil::
Hi. AGM marked SunFlame stuff is virtually ALL pre-WWII. After the war, the branding was just AGM, then Kamplite as of about 1949. Another company licensed the SunFlame name and was making lanterns with various parts after the war, but this is a pre-war model, about 1939-1942. There may have been some production during the war of AGM Sunflame. Hope this helps. I have a complete post war AGM timeline if anyone needs help with post war dating. DR
