I'm sure I wasn't the only one to see these on the Bay. Just like buses, you wait forever, then two come along at once. So why did this go for over 2.5K and the other one have no interest?
I think the first one went a bit mad, bidders got a little over excited and seemed to want it whatever the price. The second one I think was just starting too high, I reckon it puts people off from the start so they don't bid even though they probably would if it was started at say 99p with a reserve and exceeded that figure. Just my guess, you never know with lamp collectors, we are a crazy bunch.
I wonder why my Tilley eBay search picked up NEITHER of these? Still, I'm consoling myself that that's a hell of a lot to pay for a donut with a fancy shade...
My guess is the second was listed when the seller saw the sale price of the first! I wonder if the second did, in fact, sell; it was withdrawn a few minutes early - possibly in response to a private offer? Who knows. Either way, still too expensive for me. Ian
I think Mathew is right, and as a seller thnk t pays to have confidence in what you are selling. Years had several very expensive telescopes to review which I then sold on after I had done so. I started all of these at 99p and never had a doubt that they would reach a price that I was happy to sell them for. Had I started them anywhere near that price I'm quite sure some of them would have remained unsold.
Yep, he got bounced up £1000 by the No.2 bidder. I guess that's what happens when two folk want the same thing badly enough. Too rich for me as well...
