I was cleaning up yet another ML93 conversion lamp today in order to put it on eBay and the thought just struck me - I've had probably dozens of these lamps since first taking an interest in Tilleys. Did people buy this lamp to use as is do you think, if not where have all the harp frames, Jacobean stands, ML98 bases etc gone? It's not as if, after people stopped using these as a source of light, these bits could be used for much else. At a time when nothing was thrown out or wasted what did they do with them?
A lot were used to replace the fonts in oil lamps and were probably turned back to oil lamps in the 70s to 90s when oil lamps were becoming popular again and Tilleys less popular..
Juan, it has the little pudding bowl shaped font and could be used in a harp frame (KL80), or in a variety of other stands. On its own it was given the title ML93. The one I have at the moment has a good ML93 decal on it.
I don't suppose it has a copper tank does it Jean? I'd imagine not with a decal on but I've got to ask.
No Matthew, this one is definitely brass. I do have 2 copper ones, I've put one in a harp frame and one in a wall bracket. These have brass fittings (pump and control cock) but I know of a CPL member who has one with all copper fittings.
with all copper fittings pump control cock ect ? never heard such things !!!!!!! but sure would like to see it COME ON LETS SEE IT! kenny
Kenny and Matthew, O.K. I might just have to eat humble pie here. Owner of copper conversion lamp cannot remember when he last saw it but thinks it did have a copper control cock but pump was probably brass. Sorry, sorry, sorry!!!
