would anyone here know about a solar kerosene lantern ;its a 350 c.p looks like new and it fires up so nice where was it made or maybe the value ;cant attach a picture;but you can reply to my e-mail and i can attach one thanks everyone
'Solar' It's a brand name made in China. You Tube video. That throws up an interesting item from the 'beloved' BBC who are(were) reporting on the banning of kerosene lamps in favour of solar (as in Sun powered). Quote:- "One such NGO is Sunny Money, and managing director John Keane emphatically points out that it is an NGO which firmly believes in business-based solutions." All about the money.
Hello and welcome aboard! Use the free image optimiser, the tab for it is at the top of the page, Jeff.
thank you for the warm welcome and im sure i will enjoy my stay as with most collectors what a great hobby it is ;i will try to get a picture of the lantern ;
well i tried the image optimiser thing and the picture came thru but heck where did they go sorry not the best for understanding certain things
If it is the Chinese 'Solar lamp' may be the image and the lamp vanishing into oblivion maybe the best thing....
The build quality of Solar lanterns is very good in comparison to Anchor and other Chinese made lanterns. Solar lanterns are made almost entirely from brass and most of the other Chinese made lanterns have tanks and cages and outer hoods which are made from very cheap steel and they rust easily. However, once Anchor lanterns etc., have been properly set up then they do work very well. Solar made at least 3 sizes of lanterns and a bowl fire, check out the links below, Jeff. http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/3398 http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/5026
Hi ! The build quality of Solar lamps is not very good forget about sending us a photograph of your lamp they are very common over here. Where in the world are you ? Prehaps you could show us some other lamps in your collection instead ! mick
He's in "springfield, mo", Mick. Odd that we should get two new members from there on the same day. Anyhow, Springfield is where the Simpsons live and I've no idea where 'mo' is but I think she's one of Marge's sisters. America anyway, so maybe one of your Solars got that far - amazing...
We have our abbreviations, and it seems that the U.K. likes their postal address longggggggg. Why is that?
Why would we make it simple when it can be so delightfully complicated? Mostly it is just tradition. In fact if you give just the post code and house number that will be enough but people, including me, like to think we live in a place not just a number. ::Neil::
I used to take pleasure in addressing letters to a friend (now deceased) with just his name and the name of the town. There were 12 people there, and he always got his mail
In the USA it may well be... I can't get these US state codes. Some of 'em aren't too difficult to guess - I suppose FL is Florida - but others have me beat. Why isn't Missouri 'MI'? Or maybe that's Michigan or something? Is Michigan even a State? I expect Pak Doo-Ik in North Korea is equally confused (assuming, of course, that anyone in North Korea actually reads CPL)...
Al said: It was like that here once upon a time, but more and more people and streets etc. crowded the scene. Then came automation of mail handling, and like telephone numbers, things like 'Cholesbury 596' ended up with eight numbers or something, and every Tom Dick and Harry company and department now pinpoint every Tom Dick and Harry person down to the square yard. No post code - no service. Much like National Insurance numbers and tax codes - we feed the machines, thereby numbing the brain in the process. Before I get too carried away (or is it too late?!), I too had difficulty with the image optimiser, so use a small add-on program that resizes any images in my files down to an acceptable size for input: http://imageresizer.codeplex.com/ Then you have to follow the instructions for handling image files in the reply window - not forgetting to select the necessary 'thumb-nail' or 'full size' before clicking 'finish'. It's all in the detail - 'machines' you see! They don't think the same as we do. Lets hope they never do.
You think? Taking satnav as an example, those who follow the satnav won't find us. Those who use the noggin and stop and ask locals always do, and once found ignore the satnav hereabouts. Try getting a pension or tax refund without codes . . . Your computer has an ip address, can you get connected without one? Registering is commonplace and an ongoing requirement even for seeking sometimes fairly innocuous information. That series 1 Land Rover club requires registration just to view their 'gallery'. Hyperbole?
Yes. I regularly post letters without a postcode - they get there. Every day I enter details onto the DWP database. I think the first time I used it, I entered someone's N.I. number but then realised it wasn't necessary and I've never bothered since. Same database deals with HMRC - it doesn't ask for a tax code at all. I'm not sure what the point is you're making about SatNavs - they're not perfect, but then neither were maps. Living in the 21st Century? It is what it is - get used to it. No point banging on continually about it. That just gets tedious...
well guys i have read a few of the replies and yep a few were funny' and yes its the state of missouri 'better know for the show me state and as most call it the misery state which fits it very well ;im from the upstate new york area but moved here some years back ;the biggest mistake i made ;i have another kerosene lantern as well ;it was made in germany very nice it is a 500 C.P. plus the solar which i might add seems to work just great 'im a coleman collector plus the akron lanterns and lamps as well ;stoves and irons and so much more ;one day i might figure out that image optimiser and get a few pictures of my toys ;i guess each to there own as far as liking certain lanterns;myselve i like different and rare ;have a great day everyone '
Great comeback, Stormie. You'll no doubt have your own image manipulation software so just use that if the on-board optimiser doesn't work for you. Once you've tarted-up your image and cropped it, the key thing to do is save it somewhere on your 'puter and in so doing, set the image quality down to 25-30% (you'll not notice any loss of quality on a monitor), the resolution at 72dpi and the size to 640 pixels on the longest side. Doing that will easily get you under the 97kb(?) file size limit. BTW, we all collect whatever lanterns interest us. In general terms, if it's got a pump, it'll be fine here...
If it is the Solar-kerosene lanterne, with the red controlhandle and sideway build-in pressure-relasecockhandle on the pressure-meter and black pump-knob then it is a well-build lantern robust lantern. There also exist a Soral kerosene lantern, which is even better build. Claus C
yep its close to as you explained it but the knob to open the flow of liquid is red not black'still its darn nice looking thing and lite up very bright ;
