Nice! I always visit when Tall ships race are stopping nere here. It's a highlight when it happens. Unfortunatley they won't make any stop on the west coast this year... I like old ships, and Tall ships race always gather so many beautiful vessels. I'm sure you got more to show! Nice to see that they are attending with Götheborg(Gothenburg). They have had some tough financial problems, but I guess most associations that try to run these large ships have these problems. She's a replica from the old Swedish East Indiaman that sunk just as she entered the river of Göta just before arriving back to Gothenburg, a bit shameful after all hardships from the long trip to Canton and back. Here's a very poor image I took with the mobile some years ago when she passed by between my island and the Swedish mainland:
Yes, i have some pictures more. I can post them if someone wants. Götheborg is beautiful ship and it has also best smell... wood tar Sadly i could't visit inside of ship, it is open just in Saturday.
Yep. Tar is the smell for real boats and ships. I actually get the tar I use on my wooden boat from the the same place that provided Götheborg with it, just as all that rope you can see some examples on, neatly tucked up, in your picture of the bow! Real tar from old time kilns (pile burned?). Yummie! Yes, please! More pictures.
I remember watching them go through Tower Bridge ages ago... no idea how long ago or whether they still do. I don't ever remember seeing them go past when I lived on the Kent coast and if they were heading up the Thames I would have done because I could see anything taller than a barge from my garden..
John and I went down to Greenock last year to see them. Fabulous sight and must have been the only sunny week-end in Scotland all summer.
I bet that they had yesterday good wind to sail. There was fun waves in lake when i was there. My boat is not tall ship , but made for fishing in sea. Video edit. its fun how small those waves look like in video, after this waves turned bigger and i had to quit taking video & pictures. My camera wasn't waterproof.
