Hello everyone, I'm new to to colecting pressure lamps and I am just starting. I am interested in obtaining a Vapalux M320. I have a modern Tilley X246B and I can see that they are not like the older ones and from reading this forum I understand the Vapalux is better. As far as light output, does it out perform the Tilley and will parts interchange? Could you recommend a place to obtain one locally other than FleaBay, which has several in GB, and what price would be fair?
Tilley and Vapalux do not have compatible parts. in theory both Tilley X246B and Vapalux 320 are the same candle power. Either in good condition can work well but in general the Vapalux is better made and tends to be brighter. Local to where? Anywhere near Herts and I can almost give you one. Car boot sales and the rougher end of the antique trade are good places to search and the Auto Jumbles at steam rallies are good hunting grounds. ::Neil::
Claude, Finding a Vapalux in the North America could be a challenge. If not this forum (many Yank members), then the Coleman Collectors Forum may be your best bet. Also a Google search Vapalux site:craigslist.org might turn up something. Al
Hello Claude and welcome aboard! Vapalux and Bialaddin and Imber Research products do turn up in the USA., but not often. Jeff.
Used to be. Born and bred in Cheshire but I was exiled to Herts in 1965 and lived here ever since. Close to Junction 9 on the M1. ::Neil::
same here born and breed in the new york area moved to this so called show me state or rather as they call it the misery state ;its true theres no place like home but at times you need to be where its a little cheaper living plus the weather ;the mrs enjoys it as we dont get the deep snow we used to get back home 6-7 foot at a time here maybe a inch or 2 ;we have to just deal with what life offers ;
it seems i was lucky enough to find a vapalux here in the states and yes a e-bay item ;no globe but maybe one day i can find one ;plus the correct mantles;a model M1-B was a lucky day thats all ;
As someone who moved from Miami, to Denver, to London, and then near Junction 11, I completely agree with using the word "exile."
Felt like one too for a year or so. I had a strong Merseyside accent when I cane here in '65 and people had trouble understanding me. Then I worked in an office with a local lass with a strong rural Hertfordshire accent. We were almost reduced to sign language for a few months. Felt almost like an alien never mind exile. Strange feeling too because the place just didn't feel right. Just wasn't "Home" I guess. ::Neil::
