I was lucky enough to finally complete my collection of the 4 smaller type Tilley's that were exported to the United States they include: X410, X410a, X458 and finally the X460 that was the last part of the set. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/161106921105?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 I have bought lamps all over the world and I was looking forward to getting this lamp in my collection, unfortunately the seller contacted me and informed me that the lamp had been held up in transit and considered to be a dangerous item and that it could no longer be sent to me. To say I was annoyed would be an understatement. The seller followed it up and was told that the item would not be returned and that it would go to a liquidator to be sold off. I consider these lamps to have significant historical value and when I have organised my own pick ups abroad I have never encountered any problems before. I was wondering if there is anything that could be done about this or if any member has attempted to retrieve items such as this that have been restricted to being sent abroad. Could the lamp collectors of the world compile a letter to some organisation to inform and educate them on the historical significance of these lamps and give some background on the reasons why they are a collectable item? After all they were exported to many countries why should it be so hard for them to be sent elsewhere? The other 3 lamps all came from the United States without any of this drama attached, It was probably just some desk jockey that decided in their infinite wisdom that this harmless lamp could somehow be considered a dangerous item. Any advice of help would be greatly appreciated. Astro.
Did it actually leave the USA or is it stuck in their customs dept, what carrier did the seller use ...
Well what are to odds?? I know we are not suppose to show a live listing but after close examination this appears to be the lantern I purchased and it now has been re-listed by another seller. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Vintage-Tilley-X460-Camping-Wall-Lantern-Hendon-England-/161106921105?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=rfyht5FO3sWs5C5C9eYzEf1Idjs%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc I cannot believe that this has happened so quickly, if there is any American collectors that may consider bidding on my behalf please let me know. I would be able to pay you and organise pickup using my own courier. Astro.
Wrong one I mean this listing: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/111180461082?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
AB, his feedback isn't super , might be another reason you didn't get the lamp, Which courier did he use , I've send a lot of stuff UPS with no problems,
Seems very odd. It is definitely the same lamp. You won the auction on Sep 20th and it is listed for sale again Oct 3rd 300 miles away and the description is a cut & paste from the first listing. I find it hard to believe that the lamp would have been sent to a liquidator that quickly. I would pressure the seller to provide evidence of his comments (emails from shipper etc). I would also start an 'item not received' claim through Ebay. It is the responsibility of the seller to get the item to you safely via an approved method. Terry
It said 100% on the seller so I didn't even question it. On the tracking it said multiple carriers that included Fed-Ex I have had lamps arrive using them before the whole thing doesn't make any sense to me.
Usa ebay has a new postage system now and if he used that one it will not arrive .it ends up where yours is now . All members on the coleman site have been told . Bob .
I would ask for a copy of the official customs answer that the seller got. Saying that you have made an official complain or something like this towards the US customs. Also inform ebay at least give them a change to act. Don't forget to save the pictures. The paint damage at the right of the decal says it all. Succes.
The seller of the lamp used Ebays own global packing system, since they use his listing for the contents of the box, it's no wonder it was stopped, since we all bend the rules when we post abroad, he'll get fully reimbursed, the lamp is sold off, it's a drop in the ocean for the Ebay empire....
Ebay has been quietly stealing pressure appliances and making more money, even after paying the buyer and the seller, they resell them at their bogus accounts on ebay for more money, no wonder prices are going up all the time...go figure: http://www.colemancollectorsforum.com/post/ebays-global-shipping-program-a-cautionary-tale-6558057?trail=100#37
Wow!!! I can't believe reading this from the coleman site, I wish there was something that could be done for this to stop happening.
Thanks for the warning on this one. I'm now wondering how this is going to affect UK sellers - important for me because I plan to start listing my collection soon i.e. tomorrow...
It would appear that a seller does not have to use E/B Global but they have to "opt out of it". I have just won a glass shade in US listed at 17.35 post Auction finished now 24.03 Us Global shipping, another cost to buyer
David, Transglobal Premium I use regularly and organise all pick ups myself from this end and have never had any dramas. You need to specify a customs code and I classify it as an historical artifact and that seems to work just fine and I have never had it questioned once. Just out of curiousity I don't suppose you have a spare X460 lying around it that collection of yours??
I have just received a full refund for the lamp and sent this email to customer support, but i'm sure it will fall on deaf ears. Query about Undelivered item sold through Global Shipping Program. Memberid: astroboy* Purchase date: 9/19/13 I would like to question the reason for item number (161106921105) not being able to be delivered because it was considered a dangerous item? I am a lamp collector and buy lamps from all over the world and have never had this problem before. These lamps have historical significance & value and do not contain any fuel of any kind when transported and in most cases haven’t even been used for decades. I regularly organise my own courier service and have to provide a customs commodity code which categorises these as Historical Items, as they are sort after worldwide by many collectors. Ebay seriously needs to do something to make there Global Shipping Program aware of the significance of these lamps and other related items as they pose no threat whatsoever when transported. These lamps were exported initially to the USA from the U.K. so I cannot understand why they would be considered dangerous. If I can get items sent from the USA using another nominated courier why is there double standards and how come Ebay has these items rejected through the Global Shipping Program? Strangely enough this item has now been re-listed by another member Item number (111180461082) I would question how is this even possible and why can’t the items be returned to the original seller to organise alternative arrangements? The whole process seems very questionable to me and as a regular user of Ebay I think I am entitled to some answers. Regards, Dave Chambers Parkes NSW Australia.
No, but I was going to bid on one, auction ending the day after tomorrow in Kentucky USA. But then I suppose it'll get no nearer the UK than Kentucky, USA and the cycle will repeat... So who wins here? - eBay/PayPal refund the buyer fully and the seller already has had his payment. At that point the item is owned by eBay/PayPal who try to recoup some of their outlay by selling it to a fourth party. He, in turn, hopes to make some money by reselling it on eBay. In order for him to do that, eBay must have sold it to him cheaply (so they're out of pocket) and he still runs the risk of losing out if the item doesn't attract a decent price. As a scam, this doesn't work - so what am I missing?
If you search on similar items stolen by ebay, they use the same wording in their bidding, and they start the bids at the last known price of the product they stole, so, even if they make a dollar over, they recovered their "investment" and make an extra dollar, it is a scam, a very elaborate scam to rob and make more money without any serious effort.
If this is true then the item will never be actually sent anywhere but enter into an endless round of selling and reselling. Hard to see a winner here BUT a scam is a scam and if that is so then you talk to the police because it is fraud and that is illegal in most countries. ::Neil::
astro is the tracking number you got for this lamp LPKEN000000012410032 or if you go (at your own risk - i saw refence to the site on ebay forum about the global shipping program) to http://www.trackyourparcel.eu/ and put in that tracking number and your zip code does it pull up the tracking for your lamp? i am trying to figure out if they are using the tracking number of the confiscated package in the new listings they are putting up
The 2 tracking numbers I have are: UPAAB000000028840257 UPAAB000000028840304 Not the same as the one you mention.
I think this new epray global shipping system should be warned about on every lantern forum if possible, so that no seller uses it for shipping their lanterns as these lanterns all ends up in hands of the guys ( thiefs ) in Erlanger and relisted by them at epray again. If this system would be the future shipping system for purchases from epray, then it's the end of international shipping as we know it today. Good for U.S. buyers maybe, as international high bidders will be banned by sellers if they dont' have an US shipping adress, and prices will go down. Fred,
This can't just apply to international sales of pressure lanterns, though - where would be the sense in that? Surely it must apply across the board i.e. for all items in all international sales. Is it happening with stoves and other similar items?
Ofcourse not, it's happening to everything, car parts, all sorts of vintage stuff, go have a look at ebay, klick on the text ( Learn more ) when an item has this global shipping program feature, and be amazed of just how many different types of items that is restricted or prohibited from being shipped through this program, it's just about everything... and sellers do not understand that their items will be shipped through this program, also they must actively choose not to ship this way, if they know about it.
