Even cars, i read on the CCF one example 2008 avalanche LTZ, Go read the thread on CCF, very interesting reading
The CCF thread was moved to the classified section which is accessible to members only, apparently to prevent bots from linking it, you may need to sign up with the forum to read it. This just in, the GSP does not allow the following: 1381384227-prohibited.png 1381384248-restricted.png
That means that ebay GSP gets to steal almost anything they want and put it for sale again to make an extra profit, not good, I would recommend everybody to opt out of GSP as soon as possible to prevent your items to be stolen by ebay and re sold by an unfair competitor, please repost on other forums as well, this scam needs to be exposed to all parties which may be affected.
hhmm, strange "real estate" is also on the list. Since when do they ship houses ? So our lamps would be in category vintage, mid century, retro ? Can a seller after you won change the shipping method ? or other way around : you ask that they opt out during the auction, is this possible ? On the bottom: If the rules of engagement say the ebay doesn't send items back that are listed. Then you will never win. they have warned you and the seller. I doubt that they must tell what they do afterwords with the items.
You could be right and even "Militaria" might apply in some cases. But I think it's more likely "Dangerous Goods" in the 'Prohibited' list. Of course, it all depends on what is meant by "dangerous" and since it's eBay's game, they get to make the rules and it's their definition of the word that counts, unfortunately...
Is there a way of telling whether a seller is using the eScam global non delivery "service" prior to bidding and asking them not to do so?
the information is in the auction shipping information, but i do not know if the seller can change the method, if i were to bid, i would ask him to, or i would not place a bid. Fred
The info on CCF forum, linked above, is available without a log in if you search with Google then view the cached page. It worked for me yesterday. Ken in NC
I received this reply today from Ebays GSP. Hello astroboy*, Thank you for contacting us regarding the Vintage Tilley X460 Camping Wall Lantern Hendon, England (161106921105) that you purchased through the Global Shipping Program but was not able to receive due to a restriction that arose at our hub. While I understand you have been able to receive similar items before, because this item, at one time, contained flammable liquid, our shipping company was not able to forward the item on to you. We do our best to set up category restrictions so that items that cannot be forwarded through our shipper are not included in the program in the first place, but sometimes items are able to slip past these restrictions. Because of the risk involved in shipping items like this, when we were not able to forward the item onto you, we issued you a full refund and liquidated the item to a third party to recuperate our costs, (the liquidation company was likely the one that listed the item via the listing you cited in your message). I recognize that this is not the ideal solution, but it is our policy to liquidate items in situations such as this. Going forward, if you see an item similar to this that you would like to purchase, and you see the Global Shipping Icon in the shipping details, you will want to reach out to the seller before you bid or commit to buy the item and see if they will be willing to ship the item to you directly. If they are, you will need to request a total ("more actions" > "request total" in your purchase history) so the seller can send you a new invoice with the cost to ship to you directly. I hope this helps to explain what happened with this transaction and how to avoid this situation in the future. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again. Thank you for your understanding and for being a great member of eBay since 2001. Regards, Erin S. eBay Global Shipping Team
Well that's [strike]complete bollocks[/strike] absolutely crass - from the idiotic Americanism "reach out to the seller" (why can't they just say 'contact the seller') right up to overlooking that the plane carrying the package contains tens of thousands of litres of fuel as opposed to a small tank which may have contained less than a litre of fuel decades ago, every molecule of which will have dispersed long since. I give up...
Well, at least you got a reply that is readable. Most of the responses I get from Ebay are cut & paste jobs from someone in Lithuania who flunked English at school. Terry
I think the point they are conveniently ignoring is if they used a bit of common sense and shipped the bloody thing in the first place then there wouldn't be any costs to recover... Talk about state the obvious, it's clear what happened, the issue was that it shouldn't be and they didn't address that at all!
Perhaps it would be worthwhile to research other auction websites and if any are found to be suitable, then start giving them some trade. Jeff.
Surely an auction website is not the one to decide the means by which an item is shipped - but the seller. In which case it is between the seller and the buyer which carrier is used. That still does not get around the problem of carriers refusing to carry goods they deem a 'risk', they can still refuse on any - and indeed very spurious grounds. How do knives and guns get carried Nationally and Internationally? Perhaps governments can answer that one. Seller and bidder beware?
I generally have organised my own pick ups from my end without drama. And I generally contact the seller and ask them if that's ok, and normally its not an issue with them. The customs commodity code I use is : 97050000 which classes the item as a "Collectors Piece or Historcal Artifact. And it has never been rejected to date. Being in the States I didn't ask the seller if I could use my own courier as I had never organised a pick from there before. But after all of this I certainly won't be relying on EBay's Global Shipping Service to get things to me again. Anyway that lamp re-sold for a cheaper price than what I initially paid for it, makes you wonder who to and if the circle will start again??
No, because the seller specified it was for sale within the US only. So I didn't bid because I'd have needed a 'lamp-buddy'. Shame, because I'd have paid £110 for one of those every day of the week, every week of the year... Anyway, good to know that eBay must have lost out on the deal in terms of money, time and effort. Hopefully as their losses mount, they'll realise the stupidity of their policy. I'm also astounded by their double standards i.e. it's dangerous for us to carry that item but OK for other companies to do so. Perhaps when they don't see planes falling ham-sam out of the sky, it will give them further reason to reconsider...
Tell the same to Royal Fail and some of the other couriers who class an empty lam in the same category as a FULL butane or LPG pressure canister.
This is why I now use UPS for mailing lamps. They will accept a declaration that there is no fuel in the tank and just do what they do best and deliver. Not cheap but reliable and fast. ::Neil::
Yes ,UPS are my carrier of choice for anything international,I book through interparcel to get decent prices,The chap who collects them seems the most professional as well...
Yes, I used UPS/Interparcel last time I sent a lantern abroad. I gave it 2-3 days before I PT'd the member in the US to tell him it was on it's way but it turned out it had already arrived earlier that day - you can't fault that. The only downside, really, was the cost. Ouch - both ways...
I bought a stove and he is shipping UPS from UK. I paid more, separately, to ship, but better than 8 weeks and then find out RM confiscated it. So far I believe this man to be a great seller. Thank you all for sharing your experiences. Ken in NC
