had this a few weeks and just managed to spend a few hours fettling it,,,It hasn't done much work but its been in a damp shed so plenty of surface rust, A quick clean up and a wipe over ,a set of seals and its away,I didn't have the correct mantle so one of the bargain japanese four dozen got tried out,,,,nice long string on the mantles but don't pull too hard as its very weak, Ran great,,but the Mica crackled a little and looks like its lavers are lifting apart,a bit of damp maybe but i did have it hidden in the airing cupboard for a while, nice beam of light, and a screw in pump ,so you'll never know if the nrv is leaking a little....
Oh, I think you will. The Tilley effort is nothing at all like the Coleman version where the NRV is locked shut. All the Tilley screw-in pump does is to stop the pump-rod sticking out of the tank - it has absolutely no effect on the NRV whatsoever...
hi Norf, great work on the Tilley, looks to be running sweet, can i ask about the Japanese mantles, are they a good fit for the Tilley, some mantles from there are smaller than the cp they are stated for, thanks, Frank
Frank, The mantles shrink a lot more than a normal 164 mantle so not as good so you dont get the big inflated type ball that a good 164 gives ,not worried as the proper mantles for this lamp is smaller than that ,I bought them for those jobs where you might waste a mantle on a first light up,,,,both ends are loose ties but the ties are very weak, but they will adapt to fit different burners just to give a try out... David ,yes you are right its not locking down the NRV,,,it'll just stop the pump shaft slowly rising during operation if theres a slight leak...
I really like this style of lamp. As I am averse to using "Flea Bay", I don't suppose I'll ever find one here in the wilds of Indiana. Really nice. Thanks for posting.
