CCS/CPL Annual UK Gathering - Newark

    6 - 8 June 2014

You are welcome to join us for the annual gathering at
    Smeatons
    Lakes, Newark, Nottinghamshire.

Collectors of stoves, pressure lamps & blowlamps
    are all welcome.

Please bring along some of your collection for
    display!

Originally a weekend event, many people now arrive
early. The field is booked from the Wednesday at our special
rate. Please come along even if it's for the Saturday night.

No need to book but if possible drop me an
    email
to let me know you're coming so I have a rough idea of numbers.

Cost is £6.50 per night per tent, caravan or campervan. Extra
tents & gazebo's housing displays are free.

    newarklamp.jpg

We look forward to seeing you
    there!

More info: DO NOT BOOK IN at
reception. Please just pop in to reception & tell them
you are attending the Classic Camp Stove's rally or the
'lamp & stove rally' & they will likely point you in the
right direction. I will collect the pitch fees during
    the event.
A key-card for the main gate barrier is
available for a £5 deposit. If you are arriving after
6pm please park up & walk around to the rally field & borrow
someone's card to gain access. If the warden is still
about & sees you she may let you in herself but please don't
disturb her otherwise. Alternatively, from Thursday give me a
ring on the mobile & I will let you in. Email me for
tel. number. There is a height restriction barrier which is closed around 8pm, preventing high vans or caravans entering or leaving the site. If it is closed you will need to park up until the following morning. It may be possible to come to some arrangement with the warden so if this is an issue give the site a ring. Normal vehicles are not affected.
The normal rate for the site is £15-17
per night for 2 people with a car. Our discount rally
rate of £6.50 per night per tent, caravan or campervan does
not include use of the main toilet & shower block. We
do have access to the basic mens & womens 'Anglers Toilet'
on the site which is just toilet & sink. If you wish
to use the showers in the main block by reception there is a
fee to pay (£1 I think). The shower
block uses a numerical key entry system. In the past
some people have paid their fee & passed the number around.
This has upset the site manager & as a result you may find
they open the door for you rather than giving you the code.
If we are trusted again this year please respect the system
& pay the fee otherwise it may be difficult to secure the
venue or goodwill in future years.
We are also asked to keep dogs on leads &
not allow them to foul the rally field - obviously accidents
do happen in which case you are respectfully asked to clean
up after your dog. The site provide a dog walk area.
There is fishing available on site but it
needs to be booked in advance.
There are no hookups on the rally field

Ray, is that the thing where we get as many together as possible and then take them down the local scrappy? Or maybe we see how many blown tanks we can get in one weekend.

Ok ok, I'm just jealous because I don't have one myself.

No estate car for me this time, which means less boot space and less lamps to bring. Will have to make sure I just bring quality hey. ;) ;) Oh and hopefully no spillages this time. :content:

 Forgot about this and have just dismantled/destroyed 17 of the blighters.

Anyway, originally, I was just going for 50 gold ones to mark the 50th anniversary - someone else hi-jacked it up to 246. Don't tell me I have to rebuild the gold ones now! Awww, mannnn... ](*,)

On the other hand, there's a distinct probability I won't be able to go to Newark this year...

David :!: , You had better be there or you won't get your "cough medicine". I will bring a few 246's to help make up the 25 Gold ones, so you can light a couple of mine for me.

Matt  , I will show you how to light one if you have forgotten how to do it  . I also look forward to sampling your version of the "cough medicine" :D/ :D/ .

Ray, bring a couple of both R1 and Bowlfire mantles please [-o< .

Looking forward to Newark again - Steve.

    I hope so...

I'm still not sure we'll manage 50 gold ones though..

I'll bring as many as I can of various colours anyway.

The weather is always good what your guys on about??
During the inclement moments all you end up doing is staying in one tent gently steaming...

What day/time will you light up the X246Bs? If possible, I will cobble together the X246B I pulled apart for spares and light it up this end of the globe....

    Hi All,

Just a few questions please, about the "to do's", should a newbie wish to attend this Annual Event ?

Is it a gathering built entirely around the Tilley X246B's arrival on to the lamp markets, 50 years passed predominantly; or is this just 'one' of the reasons for the event ?

I'm hoping to be able to make it, hopefully on the 7th, a Saturday, so should I bring the only X246B I have ? I've not burned it yet, so it's in super condition, after its re furb (way back yonder now). I've a bit of that lighting anxiety, & if the numbers are already healthy enough (I'd rather not  ); but I still would though, to achieve the "fuller 50" . . .. but would still rather not . . . . . =P~

A rental vehicle will be the mode of transport my hoard arrives in, so whom or by what time (before the event), do I notify, prior to turning up ?

I've a Gazebo to install, so please let me know if this would be Ok, it's not the size of a stadium, but would enjoy the weather cover, should the important stuff turn into a ravine !?

Cheers then, and 'I'm looking forward to a great day'

    Jon  .

Jon, there's no formalities to the event. The whole x246 thing is just a bit of fun really, we don't normally have a theme of any sort but just occasionally. I believe there was a mass light up of Optimus 111 stoves one of the years. As you'll see some of us are there from Tuesday, so you can turn up on the Saturday whatever time you like. Just roll up to the barriers, press the button, tell the lady that answers that your a nut case looking for a bunch of fellow nutters and she'll point you in our direction.

Oh and gazebo's, tents whatever you want, I'm sure there'll be no problems finding room.

Jon, certainly no need to light an unlit lamp...

As Mathew said the 50 Tilley X246B thing is just a bit of additional fun this year.

Righto for that Matthew, it's nigh on a cert I'll be turning up, my Sis's hubby, Al, is going to be the Captain for the day, we're renting a van, ect; as I'd like to bring the few beauties I've done up.

I'm bringin' some other lantern parts along, too, but the full working lanterns will be mainly the US models. What's the SP with fuel management, ect; do we all bring our own, or isn't this any type of issue, re H & S reg's, on the grounds ?

I ask because I've only plastic tinnies, No jerry armor tins, ect. May find summat before hand, perhaps, but really best to know first; we all know it's naughty stuff, so there'll only be a bowl of water & a Tea Towel for me. Gotta pick up sticks, & buy a reet' extinguisher, soon !

Much work to get through then, ITMT but as it's my first 'jaunt', I'm already giddy with anticipation. Good stuff & I'll hopefully make it on the Saturday.
I'm keen to attend
    and can't wait :!:

    Cheers, Jon.

Cheers Gneiss, I'll bring it along though, however; it's an all black X246B, and has a steel reflector I'm yet still to polish up, gleaming like

Lot's of other jobs to see too, on top of that also, so I'd best get me head down & become more active :-({|= ect.

Hopefully see ya there then :!:

    Thanks,

    Jon    .

Everyone just brings their own fuel...

In the UK, legally you should only carry petrol in a proper petrol container which is properly marked. I'm sure everyone sticks to that ;)

    It's all pretty relaxed...

    See you there

Well Gneiss, the containers the required fuels already in, will have to do this time, as 'no cash spare' for one of those green fuel tanks 'n spout.

    TK Maxx were stocking these years ago, & they weren't too bad, I should hav . . ... . . ](*,)

Will have a nosey on Amazon later, probably best to buy two (Kero/ Naptha or Panel Wipe, ect). Paraffin's always taking on board more water, the longer it's 'stood' :rage: .

    Cheers for advice  ,

    Jon.
