Hi, I have inherited a Coleman 238B rapid-light. DOM 12/51 it was made in Canada. Its life in Australia was chartered with Girl Guide Association. I am sure it could tell some stories. I am looking to restore this lamp and need to obtain a ceramic mantle holder as the original is cracked. Does anyone know were I might source such a thing. I have tried Old Colemans.com to no avail. They say the model is very rare in the US however they do make a reproduction generator. It would be an amazing thing if there was a service kit also available for it. Pressure testing has proven perfect.

What a great find!! I have been searching for one of these for years but everytime I find one I find out I would have to mortgage the house to pay for it! Have you checked to see if a Petromax ceramic burner would work! Off hand I would say to try one for an 827, I think a 829 would to a little too big. Just not sure. I would hope one of these would work because you will probably have a very hard time finding a Coleman ceramic burner.

Another way to go might be to source the appropriate brass burner cap size per the candlepower rating... then simply adapt a short brass sleeve to attach it to the burner chamber a la Coleman 242/249 style.

Might have to source the correct thread size and dies.

Good luck! Those are indeed very rare Coleman!

    :-)
