Coleman 238B dated 4/52. The instructions on the collar are in Dutch and French. The blowtorch works but the vapourizer weeps in the closed position. How is the fuel supply closed off - is there a rubber washer like in a petromax? I will clean it up when I get some spare time
Hello James, that's a great find , but I do not have one of those lanterns, so I cannot be of any help, perhaps Neil will be able to assist, Jeff.
Hi James, all I can tell you about these is that they were made for the Belgian Army. Before WW2 we used some 237A's in the bunkers of the K-W line (Koningshooikt-Waver, the 2 cities that lay at the start & end of this defensive line of 4 rows of bunkers and some anti-tank canals etc. We had to give them up when the German army broke through the French lines at Sedan.) and 3-burner cabin stoves (also Colemans). The army was happy with them, so after the war they bought some 238B's with the instructions in Dutch (or, as we prefer, Flemish ) and French, the official languages in Belgium at that time (later, German was added). I am looking out for a used one as I don't want to light my virgin one! Best regards, Wim
Wim, Colemen must have made some 238b's for the English market as well. The writing on the collar of mine is all English
Hi Tonebone, yes they made some for the civil market, with the text in English. I can't exactly remember, but it has been discussed on CPL before what market they aimed at. A little voice tells me it was the Asian or Aussie/NZ but I'm not sure. They do seem to turn up (completely wrecked ) sometimes on one of the Asian ebay's. All in all not that many have been made I think. All the best, Wim
