A good and kind neighbor passed away too young recently, and now his family is dealing with his collecting habit. He had well-managed investments, so he rarely passed up a farm auction item that caught his eye. He owned quite a bit of property, so he literally had barns filled with his collection. He also had at least one building in town filled with antique tools.

This "parking lot" of just his farm tractors and implements has been growing for over a month with no signs of slowing down. The auction is in June, and I predict a traffic jam in town.

(Personally, I'll be taking cash to the tool and odd item auctions in search of CPLs)

Yeah! Let us see some more of the tractors. I really like US-tractors.
I got an old Farmall myself.

Yes they are nice. And John Deere!
But old Brits are OK too.
Apart from the Farmall, I actually have a Fordson Dexta which still does a splendid job for smaller tasks. It's very neat in the woods.

Went by again on the way to the Post Office and there are a LOT MORE out there. They must have found another stash over the weekend.

I'll try to do a walk-through before the auction and get some photos for all of your tractor folks :)

The 1957 Chevrolet convertible is already in a friend's garage awaiting restoration. He was a close friend, and it was given to him before the neighbor passed. I'll keep an eye out for old Caddies!

Ah! The -57 Chevy is a true classic. Pretty common car in Sweden, but way too small in my taste.
    But they sure look nice.

Yes, I like the distinctive fins on the 57 chevy.
Funny, you think it small, I always thought of it as a big car.

Tractors, I don't have one, but, always stop for more than a few minutes when we see a restored one in town (or anywhere).

    Thanks,
    Ken in NC

Well, they were classed as fullsize, but I don't think they really are. Especially the backseat can get very crowded when taking a full crew on a cruising.
And even if considered big today, they still are less than half a metre (~20") shorter than the top of the line cars. Actually almost close to a full metre compared to the largest beasts that came later.

But the design is awesome. For some reason I like the -55 even better. Guess it's because they aren't quite as common.

Absolutely. And it's also a real fullsize compared to the Chevy we talk about.
The -59 Caddy is a favourite, even if I prefer a regular one before the Eldorado in your picture. (As long as we speak late 50's. The first years of Eldorado was another thing, and they were way better looking than the standard Caddy.)
The -59 Caddy is probably the absolute most common US-car around, and there's always several roaming around in every small community here in Sweden. That makes them a bit to common too, just as the Chevy -57 we just talked about. Things you see all the time tend to get sort of boring. Pity, because they are spectacular.
The -60 actually look better to me. More subtle - if that is a word you can use with these cars - fins than the -59, but still with that same smashing interior and airy roof line (as long as it's a coupé).

Just like stoves and lanterns, they did keep attention to details then.

And small ??? the 56 Tbird.
A girl in my high school, 6'6" tall, drove a 56 Tbird. Both were classy and drew a lot of attention. Especially when she got in or out of it.

    Love it,

Actually I graduated high school long before that movie came out. I first saw the movie on ship when overseas. So, this memory for me is earlier than when the movie came out.
Suzanne isn't that tall, either. This girl is 6'6" and shapely. Like a taller version of Suzanne.

Nah, I know she's not tall.
But the image I instantly got in my head when you mentioned that girl was the illusive blonde in American Grafitti. 8)

I had the opposite ... I would think of the girl in high school when I saw the illusive blonde in American Grafitti..... :content: :content: :content:
Her name was Vicki(y?) and was stunning. She married a guy taller then she is.

I really don't think it right to post details about someone else in a public forum. I am not one to use facebook or twitter, so I won't do that.

Oh, I was barely an acquaintance of hers.

Yes, same here. Atleast amongst the top ten.

The movie had some impact here, because even if the American music and cars were a big thing already before it, this movie absolutely boosted that interest and might have a little to do with Sweden still having by far most old American cars per capita.
