I have few 246's but only two pre-heating torches. :rage: Pre-heating torches are not so easy to get here so I decided to make semi-permanent spirit cup to vaporizer tube's lower end. I made it from 1" brass pipe cap and hexagonal brass bar. Here are few photos from it:

It fits quite ok to vaporizer tube:

I just need to test how it works... [-o<

I believe that somebody else has made similar thing earlier. O:)

Nice! The cup from a Vapalux will fit - and gives a similar effect.

That looks good and should withstand an Atomic blast!

I have not seen Vapalux lanters since they are not very common here so I have not seen Vapalux spirit cup. =P~ Thank's for that info. :)

Yes, it's heavy duty spirit cup. Minimum material thickness is more than 1,5 mm of brass in both parts.

Finally I had a change to test the spirit cup. [-o< I put some kevlar rope into it to hold the spirit. It worked without piece of rope but with piece of rope hot/boiling spirit is not shooting small spirit drops inside of glass globe:

    Small flame inside of lamp:

Maybe it's actually class fiber rope. :-k It's rope that is used in fire place doors and sauna stove hatches for sealing.

I would think that kevlar can stand some heat since some welder's mitten and F1 driver fire protection suits are made of kevlar.

I use it as fencingclothing and that must only be washed on 40 celsius :D

Maybe with water it cannot stand more than 40 °C.

Here http://www2.dupont.com/Kevlar/en_US/assets/downloads/KEVLAR_Technical_Guide.pdf on page II7 they say that "Kevlar does not melt it decomposes 427°C-482°C temperatures" When you are fencing you need to keep temperatures under that limit otherwise your suit will start to decompose.

I would think that when the Kevlar heats up enough and gets flame/spark it will start to burn. :-k

So most probably my rope is glass fiber rope...

First version of the spirit cup was sitting quite close to glass so I made two new spirit cups with shorter stem under the cup. One (on right) I made as first one second (on left) I made from shorter pipe cap and I left thread to the pieces (that saves some work since I am little bit lazy guy   )

I'll need to test how they work with my Tilleys. =P~
