That's nuts. It's not even unlit. I thought I got a good price when I sold one of these for £100 recently.

You could buy one of these boxed and unused for a third of the price.

The thing that gets me is the fact that Optimus left off the nickel/chrome plating because of the added expense! Little did they know!!

Not me, that's for sure! I just chastised an Ebay seller for hawking an R55 for $140 that's missing the vapourizer and burner.

It is actually not the sellers, its the buyers there is the problem.
There obviously is a market for these prices. So some buyers must find them ok.
    Sellers just think - Money.

    A fellow-collector once wrote:

If we wasnt ready to pay for the lamps, we would all be lighting candles.

Thinking like that as a buyer makes prices rise, but what is the solution :?: Let another one get the lamp a Little cheaper :?:  The one you have been waiting for a Whole year :?: The lamp your long gone grandpa lighted when he took you on a cozy fishing-trip at night after eels :?: :D The last type you need in your Collection - then you have them all :?: :D/ and on and on and on.

Still it wasnt me 8) I am stingy and would rather let a spider lay eggs in my ear than pay that Price for a Optimus, for now at least.

I must admit I wouldn't mind a brass one, but given that I only paid about £10 for my plated one I'm not about to part with that sort of money for one

    Hi Claus,
I have it on my wishlist but actually my price was much lower. Would have expected that thing going up to 200 or so. But in the end it is really ridiculous.

:content: Martin, since you dare to name a Price here I can tell you I bid for it, and lost it at 350. So this I actually regret I posted this under "Silly Prices", it should have been posted under "Was it anyone here?" because I estimated the lamp to skyride and it did, but I never saw that comming  :rage: I wanted that lamp 8)

    Claus,
    that's the way it goes...
I've always got a price in mind for lanterns that are on my wishlist. Of course that price also depends on the state of that lamp etc. So I put my bid, and if I win that's fine. But always I have my limit fixed, and I don't regret if its going away for a silly price. On the contrary I'm a bit amused about the greed of the others. And most of all times I'm quite close to the end if it's a realistic auction.
    BR, Martin

PS: Maybe it could be made more realistic again if nobody would put things onto his watchlist? Ebay is tricky: they use peoples watchlist contents to advertise most wanted items, in order to push the prices, and that's part of their business model...

Looks very nice, and I guess these are rather scarce. A welcome addition to any collection! I hope the buyer can make it work again.

    Best regards,

    Wim
