Well either there's no pressure , or as you say there's a blockage,
clean the tank as well as the rest of it.

I suspect we now know why it was in a skip in the first place!

De-pressurise. Open the control cock. Unscrew the vaporiser and remove the pricker wire. What state is it in? Has it got the small spring on it (or does it come out of the tube? Is the pricker intact? Is said pricker actually pushing thro the jet when pushed up the tube?

(The reason for having the c/cock in the open position is to prevent the needle tip getting caught in the jet and potentially breaking as the tube is rotated to remove it.)

Close the c/cock - pump the tank and open the valve. Do this outside, of course - - if you get fuel flow then that suggests the feed and c/cock are probably ok.

De-pressurise. Open the control cock. Refit the vap tube. (Remember my advice re protecting the pricker needle - - )

Seal everything up again and pump her up again and see if you get a jet of fuel from the vaporiser tip when you open the valve.

I suspect you're going to need to replace the vap tube, but at least his way you'll know of anything's blocked internally.

ive given the tank a good clean out stripped it down and checked all seals there ok but ive ordered service pack 1 anyway and will replace them all, the control cock and pump works ok no signs of pressure escape. the pricker in the vapouriser is in fine fettle brass end and spring all intact.gave the vapouriser numerous blasts with a pressure pump a few carbon bits came out after time and all seemed clear but as you see in the vid it needs doing again thats why ive left the vap soaking over night in dipetane, will see if that clears it, and when sp1 arrives will go thru all the procedures again. as for finding it in a skip it was prob from a house clearance and nobody could be bothered with it, many a good thing have come out of a skip about 5 years ago i rescued a classical guitar from a skip and i'm still playing it today :-({|= anyhow see how it goes---allan

Many a skip find can be good.

That needs a new vapouriser. Did you try turning the control knob quickly off and on again whilst popping?

Was it pumped up enough? At least 40 - 50, and max 100 strokes.

How much fuel has it got in it? Lamps will often pulse just before running out.

Without having the lamp in my hands it's hard to get a feel for it, but my overwhelming feeling is simply lack of pressure.

How many pumps have you given it?

Are you sure the pump is working correctly?

Take it out and check with your thumb over the end just as you would with a bike pump. It should be difficult to push the plunger all the way in... If there is little or no resistance then the pump is not working correctly.

Nice. I had one do that as well since the leather was all tired on the pump and the NRV was shot. Just sat there and made blek blek blek sounds like yours did. Glad I'm not the only one to have a kero powered fishing boat :D

I cant help it , what lantern sounds like a Scandia diesel boat motor .
I just thought of this as I crewed on a converted to pleasure trawler that had the air start Scandia . two cylinder from memory .
and it had the obligatorty bucket on the exhaust stack . ah fond memories .
    cheers,

That clip is from my waters!
I have met that boat a couple of times, and since I also got a hot bulb engine in my boat, we greet eachother warmly.
Many nights has been spent in the restaurant you can see there, sipping a beer and watching the sun set over my island. :content:

Kerry, the Skandia engine you mention was built near here. In the little town of Lysekil just north of the island where I live.
Many enthusiasts around here still got them.
A friend of mine has a two-cylider Skandia that used to sit in a trawler like the one you mention.
He picked it out from the fishing boat when it was scrapped, and now he run the engine for show on land instead.
He use a smaller 8-10hp Skandia with an air compressor to load the air tanks for starting the larger engine.
