hi i have a new lamp no 909 but it will not pump pressure there is pressure at the pump while you pumping but no pressure in the tank can you help?
Sounds like the non-return valve at the bottom of the pump is stuck closed. There is absolutely no 'hiss' when you undo the pressure relief screw? Is this your very first pressure lantern of any kind? Don't worry' there'll be a bunch of people who are better qualified to explain the problems than I.
If the pump works then it could be the nrv or any of the seals. Make sure the on off knob is in the off position. If you have fuel in the tank and it's not leaking out from anywhere then it's most likely the nrv not opening when you pump. Also I believe this lamp can be a bit tricky to get working properly from new.
I have a few very similar lanterns, some by other names, e.g., Tingkwon. I know you have said there is no pressure in the tank but at this point I would like more information. Sometimes if the pump is working slightly there can be pressure in the tank but because nothing is coming out it seems like the opposite. Can you confirm that with a two thirds full fount, after say 50 pumps, when you release the filler cap / gauge unit no pressure, hisses are detected. Could just be a blockage in the fuel line or vapouriser. Also try adding half a teaspoon of vegetable oil into the pump tube to see if more pressure solves the issue. There is often a small air screw, is that closed? (An earlier response already mentions this). Quickly turning the cleaner knob from left to right, does that help? Often the nipple can get blocked with dirt in the kerosene and that action can clean it but the pointer must be up when operating. You probably have tried these things but I just want to check. Good luck.
When you undo the filler cap, is the washer in it hard? It should be very supple or it won't seal at all. This is one of the most common reasons for trouble with any pressure lantern/stove! Best regards, and good luck, Wim
If the pump cup/washer is dry then it isn't flexible. The edges of the cup let air past as you draw the pump rod up. When you thrust down the cup spreads out and makes a seal in order to compress the air and force it past the non-return-valve. So: You need to soak the pump cup in some thin oil. If the pump cup is supple and has no splits or damage that will also prevent it making a seal you should try the pump again. I am assuming that the air pressure release is on the filler cap beside the gauge, just as a Petromax is. You have to screw that in before you can raise pressure in the tank. If the washer in the filler cap has hardened that will let air leak out, so replacing that would be a good idea. If you can get air into the tank the gauge will show you as the needle rises, or it ought to. You would still hear a 'hiss' if the relief screw was unscrewed even if the gauge was not working.
