Goodmorning all. I am currently looking at a brass ditmar maxim 506. It appears to be complete. Are these lamps hard to find parts for or hard to work on?
They should Work and perform very well, but the globes, needles and jets should be nightmarish to find as origin parts, as they dont use standards like the Petromax. Claus C
Thanks claus. It has its original dimar etched glass which is a big plus. All caps are there, preheater cup etc. Will do a few searches in German and see what come up. It looks to be a really nice lamp. Thanks again claus.
Hi eiremax, almost no parts to get, like Claus said. Also the globes are a bit taller than the Petromax types. So beware of breaking it. Apart from that tese are very good lanterns, and the 506 preheater works with paraffin. BR, Martin
Hello again eiremax, forgot to say that a brass version of the 506 sounds unusual to me. Maybe it's a 519 like this one from me? Then you should get hold of it because these are rare. Maybe you can also get an old spare part donor... Brass versions of Ditmars were mainly manufactured during the war when it was prohibited to use certain metals like Nickel. Finally they also went out of brass and produced the steel versions like this 531 or this 506. These came also with blue enamel hoods. BR, Martin
Thank you all for the advive. The lamp is a 506, the seller has sent me a number of photos and ditmar maxim 506 is pressed into the rim of the globe support. The bottom of the tank seems to have a bit of corrosion in the form of an off white tarnish. Whats to loose, I might as well go for it
