Handmade parts for Tilley R46 heater

    Hi All

    I was asked by one of our members here to make some parts for an R46 heater which were missing :rage: :doh:

    What was needed were some longitudinal construction bars & the slotted end caps to hold the heater together & here's the process :D :thumbup:

    I turned down the basic end caps on the lathe & threaded them internaly before setting up the mill with the correct size slitting saw to cut the slots in the tops :thumbup:

    Well that looks about right :D/ :D/

    Next grind up a form tool to make the domed top [-o<

    The replacement bars alongside an original closest to the camera :D

    Glad to say the owner has let me know that the heater is now back together :D :thumbup:

    That's nice work, and likely the only way to get some parts to replicate the original...

    Nice work in making parts as near to original as possible! Sometimes making the tooling takes longer than making the thing. Hats off!
