Hi guys! Has anyone used the Petromax EZ-cook stove adaptor, and what about that heater element - is it necessary ?
Just something I'd want to test and add to my "survival storage"

I own the heater element and can't say that it's any better than a mantle. The two things you may like is a) It won't break like a mantle, and b) It doesn't give off a lot of light to keep you awake.

You're far better off with some kind of firebowl since the lanterns tend to stink if not perfectly in tune.

I think you'd be better off with a simple primus stove.

Thanks. The idea was to get me a "lightening-heater-cooker". Ended up With this Nice Swedish NOS kerosene POD 8K kerosene wick-heater. Will burn for 20h whilst giving out 2,1kW. Nice addition to the hiking and emergency kit.

Hi haknuts, much like the wick heater in your post I used a Valor 353 for warmth and boiling a small kettle (approx. 1 liter). It took a while to boil  but the coffee was nice! :D/
I've not seen the pressure lamp cooking adaptor in use myself, but guess it is ok for boiling a small kettle or doing some slow cooking like a stew, but it is not a perfect combo imho. Your tent looks great, looks like perfect for winter camping! Can you tell us a bit more about it? Your children seem to like camping!

    Best regards,

    Wim

Hi Wim. Yes the Tepee or Lavvu as the native Norwegian sami-people called them are great 4-season tents. We have the Helsport Varanger Camp 8-10 http://www.helsport.no/varanger-camp?___store=english. You actually can light a campfire in the center, but I prefer a less smokey apparathus like a wood-pellets or alcohol stove (Heat Pal). This POD kerosene wick burner should burn for 20h before a refill is needed so that seems to be an even better approach to heating and cooking. These lavvos are spacious and offer stand-hight in the center. The camp version with the entrance makes it possible to have the door open even in rain, and increases the living area.

I am a little curious about your POD 8K. The upper part of the heater is a new acquaintance to me.
My own like all others I have seen has the normal grating type of pot stand that can be folded up.
What is the manufacturing date of your heater?

I have several PODs and I like the quality of them.
    They are build like tanks.
Unfortunately POD has stopped making them due to the high cost of manufacture and the low price of imported Chinese and Korean heaters.

Hi Michael. The POD is still in the mail. However I have also noticed it has a rare top-shield. Seems to be a click-on mechanism. I have not found the like on google images. I will get back to you tomorrow evening when I have picked up the parcel. Haavar

POD inhouse. Prod year 2006. The top-Shield must be an original build. Snaps on/off easily. Heater burns really clean with EUH066 kerosene. I love it! I realize this thread now is more stove than lamp-related as it started out With, but hopefully I will be forgiven...
