Hi. Does any member know of a European stockist that would ship over seas to Ireland? I have two Primus hoods that are worse for wear and considering using this product after having the hoods sandblasted. Thanks Wim, I looked into those stockists before, it seems just to be B and Q that stock rustoleum and not the product I'm looking for, they sell stove paint which I think will be matte and not enamel. I could buy a tin to see but it's not offered for home delivery I'm located in the west so far too far for a drive to nearest shop. Just thought it would be handier to buy oveR the Web and get delivered. Thanks again all the same.
I think the rustoleum paint you linked to will be matte the same as the B&Q stuff. I don't think there is any gloss paint that can take the heat of a lantern top.
Several people on the coleman collectors forum have attempted to paint a lantern vent. No one has had any success. There are a couple of places in the states that will re-porcelain a vent at a reasonable price. I'm sure there must be someone in the UK who would do it.
I have only ever had maybe three or four hood re enamelled and all of them have been mailed to Fred Kuntz for him to deal with. Even with mailing both ways it has not been expensive and the results are very good. ::Neil::
I agree, but I am not from Britain so even if I found a company, the overseas postage would too much. I emailed a company in Tipperary but they haven't got back to me, they deal in large item like stoves and ranges so probably look down on smaller items. Ah it's no big deal to be honest, I just want to take the rough look of the hood and stop bits of enamel firing off damaging the mantel.
Eiremax, if they have a porcelain course in your town, (the ones with Kiln and ceramic glazing) you may be able to do it yourself for the cost of the classes... I will be taking a course in a couple of weeks at an art center in my town, two weekends and the kiln firing comes included, I will be glazing a Primus 1020 vent during the classes.
It would be great to see a few pictures weirdnerd. What process will you use to get the hood back to bare metal?
Eiremax, Yesterday I contacted a local paint store which is listed as "local dealer" on the website. Well, they were quite impressed they were listed on that site. After all, the lady called back today and told me the product does not apply to a variety of EU rules (health and environmental) and no dealer will carry it. She also said there was a dealer in New Zealand who probaly would ship but: Paint spray must not be shipped as this is "hazardous goods". I really would have liked to do a test with that stuff. There seems to be two different types of Rustoleum paint, one gloss enamel available in many colours resistant to temps up to 500f/300c. Thanks Kiwian, Postage is up near 30USD messaged the seller regarding this so see how it goes.I'm looking at the Red Enamel. It looks good but will 500f be enough resistance for the heat of a 1020?
