Having tried to locate Austramax' website, I had to give up - do they have one? Or can I see their current products, company info etc. anywhere else, for instance at a dealers website, a company registration base or whatever?
Austramax only makes one lamp these days. Their main business is in electrical components. Most of their lamps are made for the Pacific islands. They do not have a web site. There are new Austramax for sale on eBay. If you need parts, I can arrange for you at cost. Cheers Tony
Thank you very much, Tony - I would need a lamp before I need parts But so far I would like to write something about Australian pressure lamp manufacturers on my website - and the one still active should of course be given special attention. I just don't know much about the company. Btw. - Lehman's in the USA has an Aussie Bush Light in their program, saying that it is being produced in Australia. Could that be produced by Austramax?
yes it looks exactly like an Austramax 3/300. I bought a new one from one of the two shops in Braidwood in NSW. you should find the one that sells Austramax lanterns new there by checking their website, the cost was about $159.
Jorgen All that's been written so far on Austramax has made its way to this website. If you trawl through CPL you'll know as much as anyone. I'm catching up with them in a few weeks to see if I can find out any more info. You could also try the Australian National Archives newspaper repository called "Trove". Best regards Tony
Thank you very much, both of you. Having got this hobby of writing about lamps and their manufacturers, I can't help wondering why so many of them are seemingly more secret than the secret services - they have poor web sites, or none, and they do not in general tell much about their history, especially not about those lamps and other products that they for one or the other reason have abandoned. But then again, that leaves some mystery in the world, something to be discovered and investigated
That Lehman link shows an Austramax the quality is very good only slight let down is pressure relief screw (plastic). Old and NIB are often on Ebay Aus or list a request in CPL trading post. A good simple lantern.
Tony. Having talked with the owner of Austramax the information only goes back to about 1970 when he took over the company . Anything before that date wise model changes etc unknown ,even Bernie from sands etc was my best bet . Bob
Thanks, Bob. I knew that - I'm trying to see whether we can track some old records and associates... Might be a long shot. Cheers Tony
I found an article on that great search engine, Trove, which you suggested, Tony. And it was possible for me to order a copy of it, which I am now waiting for (should appear in an e-mail within a few days). The article is from 2002 and apparently telling about the story of Austramax. I hope for the best - maybe it will be really useful. The article's details: Author:Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology Publisher:Melbourne, Vic. : Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology & Business Intelligence Australia, Part of Item to copy Volume / Issue / Date / Chapter no.ate: 2002-05-17 Title of Item / Article / Chapter:Historic lamp lights up 50 years of family enterprise.
