The couriers were busy during the day that passed... The TL11 should later be equipped with a shade - just need to find out which one would be appropriate, according to the time the lamp was from. I am in doubt about the hood - is it the correct one for this lamp? My problem is that I never saw such a lamp without a shade... Looks to be correct but is missing its outer air ring /cover, lamp was made from early 30's to about 50 depth of control cock socket will give a better date range than cock up to 40 was 20-25 mm deep as cock had a long filter. Glass shade or a wire frame vellum or parchment shade may be appropriate.
Thanks Matty - I did search the gallery before posting but somehow I missed that one. And thanks to Graham also - now I am on the hunt for such a ring/cover. Are there different types of them or can I buy just any one I find? I measured the control cock part: total depth is 18 mm, threaded part is 10. But the socket is 24 mm deep, the threaded part somewhat longer than the 10 mm but I cannot easily measure how long. So I guess that it is the wrong control cock?
Easier to find another Gallery/Burner but unless you are lucky you can probably get a complete lamp cheaper than a replacement gallery. As to control cocks look at this link (http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/4219 early fonts will have Tilley's R/D 681681 stamped on rim.
No sock, instead a modern (broken) filter. And I cannot find any stamps on neither the control cock nor the rest of the lamp. With regards to buying a new lamp rather than a spare part... well, the immense shipping costs could jeopardize that otherwise good idea. Agree Graham. The spare parts are starting to command such a price I have noticed that sellers on ebay are dismantling lamps and selling individual parts rather than a complete lamp.
Graham - I guess that I understand now what that outer ring is there for - simply decoration. So obviously there is no need to hurry in finding one. But since the burner looks like if it has been beaten - or maybe fallen down on the floor - your advice about looking for a complete gallery/burner assembly therefore seems like the best solution. The outer ring is there as a locator for the shade and for the glass shade was essential. The lamps work fine without of course and the shade will still fit but not as well. ::Neil::
