Hi, I have for more than half a year being trying to get Paint.net working again, installed to my PC. It doesn't matter what I do, whether it's fiddling about with the softwares settings (or trying too ), or just outright just uninstalling it & re-installing the same version but from a different mirror; the flippin' thing still will not re-size my lamp photos below CPL's 92 kb, without me having to take the "save tab", right down to below 25%. Then at that, nearly everyone of the pictures are just not visible, meaning the pixilation is "blocked" or like Lego soldiers ! It's doing my head in, I don't know if it's a problem with some skew whiff setting, within my PC, or it's a gathering problem that other users also face (endure) ? I haven't wanted to ask, because if I do get an answer that could help, I am still currently finding that I aren't being notified by CPL's site software, that I've an incoming mail to answer (this is another problem, but Christer had told me if it continued, then perhaps Ross ought to know of this); which makes it difficult for any normal continuum of communication. I have some smart photo's of a rare (I think to consider) Vapalux hood, which I'd like to add here, but the downsizing is a continual problem I've not managed to get around. I remember CPL has their/ your own re-sizing SW, but I can't recall where it is now ? Any help would be appreciated, thanks Jon .
Hello Jon, The image optimizer is in the blue header bar at the top of the page after you log-in. It saves the pictures with an opt tag so that you do not accidentally download over your original. It takes a few minutes to figure out but works very well.
Hiya John, . . . . Yes, what can I say, oops again, bloomin' computers don't half blind side me a recently. Smack bang in the middle of the page, and I couldn't even see that (thought me name was Billy, but it must be Silly) . . I'll traipse off tinged ' & see if I can get it to dance, check out "hopefully later", as I might have my own holy grail added up, picture-wise, ect ! Thanking you John Cheers, Jon.
For your original issue try resizing the picture to 800x600 before compressing it... The two things are not the same... That is how I do it in Paintshop pro which is admittedly a far better package, but the same principle applies whatever software package you use.
The imagesystem here on CPL is a bit, if not out of date, then not so userfriendly as one could wish for. Take a look at a polish image-system from Lampy Ciesnieniove, made by a skilled and clever member here on CPL for his homecountry. This lampssite is free, but still have high quality. When you post a Picture here, you just find your Picture on your own computer and press "add Picture" - then the Picture is added. No mess around downsizing, hiding, fetching and mistaking. Take a look at the quality and also try the enlarge-bottom. The lamp gets bigger and more clear as if you where sitting with it in your lap. As inspiration for future site-fettling I give you LAMPY CIESNIENIOVE: http://lampycisnieniowe.pl/forum/Thread-Petromax-828-august-1936 Claus C
Not much to fuss about now since we soon will change the entire forum platform, and one thing is that it will be much easier and intuitive with the image uploading here when that is done. I think drag and drop, auto-resizing etc. will work. But the change will be implemented on CCS first. I think Ross said in June or so, so once it's done there, you can go over and have a sneak peak of what we could expect here at CPL. Well, not exactly. The program isn't ours. We just link to (or rather embed) a 3:rd party service called webresizer which works OK for our purpose: http://webresizer.com/
That is good news and smart testing it on the CSS first The CPL is a very very nice place already and you guys behind makes does a great job and beside a equality between the lamps in the lamp reference gallery, then the only issue to me is the image-treatment. If these is to be fixed, then this site has no competition at all. Claus C
Yes Claus, I have to agree, CPL is a fine site and it's best to at least try the re-sizing in some other online software available; the main problem with that though, is that "darn computers" must just beggar it up eventually (internal updates or switching), mines done that twice now (I just aren't techy enough )! I got used to using PAINT net, after IRFAN view, then that just went AWOL, almost overnight; it'll be something adrift somewhere, but I don't understand bath fulls of pins & needles, I never have. Hopefully I can load up some more bobby dazzlers, weeks or a month or so away; I cant fandangle my way through CPL's Image Optimiser, it just wont have it. Fingers crossed it gets a good boost, soon I'll try just one . . . All my other scans are too big, file size; this one was a fluke, then PAINT.net through a wobbler again !! Jon.
Hiya Gneiss, Ta for that, but being honest, I'm a bit out of practise also, I just got used to not using re-sizing software, because my kept misbehaving; who knows, the PC might need a good clean out, possibly the OS uninstalling/ re-installing again ? That's a bit too serious for me right now, at least I can still add all the pictures I am still taking, to My Pictures library; I'll try & get them sorted out, the right size soon. Just using the newly installed PAINT.net, on its own normally installed default settings, still brings me those eye straining, lego land images, after Quality has brought the Kb capacity down to where the scan'll be loadable to CPL (sub 92 kb). Too complicated right now, thanks for the advice Jon.
Ok Christer, will try what's new during June sometime, in CCS. I'm more with the lamps/ lanterns, though Stoves are nice enough to also meddle over with. Hope the new SW there gives good results, that sounds like good news; the imagery on a Coleman 238B I just got a gander of, on Claus's linked site, was just what the Dr ordered. But that standard may have cost parameters; it'd be great if not, but the South Korean Company, now manufacturing the Vapalux lamps, seems also to have a neat software, quite similar. It just does it, eight mandarins peeled in a flash, just like that (very awesome, but maybe at a cost 'perhaps)? No need answer, there's no emergency, as too much fettling, I aren't yet ahead with. Thanks eh. Jon.
Hi All - I appreciate your frustration. I've always optimised images prior to upload & find it easy using Gimp or Photoshop Elements as they have tools specfcally for that. Even Irfanview. However we are in a new age & CPL will be accommodating uploads of large images with optimisation done on the fly. There will of course still be limits but they will be many, many times larger than now & will accomodate most images taken on smart-phones or good digital camera. Huge files from digilar SLR's may be too large but I'd expect anyone using such a camera to be able to downsize the images easily. As Christer mentioned drag & drop, copy & paste or regular upload with selection of multiple files at once possible. It is hoped CCS will go live in June with CPL to follow in September or October. CPL will benefit from all the hard-work, trial & error & solutuons endured for CCS & the update is expected to be smooth for CPL. We have a test site running & have been honing the process over the last 8 months with several test imports into our new platform. With regard to email notifications of PT's etc. Unfortunately some ISP have blocked automated emails from CPL as spam. I will have to look at the bounceback emails to see which ISP's are doing this & see if we can get the blocks lifted. In the meantime there is an icon that flashes to the right of the navbar that tells you new messages are in your inbox.
That is the beauty of it all as I see it. Different options for how to upload and position the stuff inside the post is good, since we all have different procedures we prefer to handle things like this. The multiple upload sounds like a great improvement to me.
