Here is a Black Hooded Handi, one of two I recently acquired. It seems in outstanding condition, the hood is unblemished as is the original globe. No dents in the fount.

After pulling the lantern apart to clean it, I have decided these aren't a lamp for me so I won't be keeping them.

I dislike how you have to remove the bail arm to remove the hood. I actually had great trouble putting the bail arm on this one as I thought I had two identical lamps. As it turned out, the bail arms differed in size and would only fit the lantern they came with.

One lantern is missing the red badge and this one has the badge but the nib at one end has broken off and it can't be attached to the collar in it's current state.

    Hi Matty !

This makes a refreshing change to see a lamp in a sea of adverts !

    I brought two Handi's in Australia .
The black top version and later I was told the harder to find red top lamp with pump more on side of tank rather than just upwards of shoulder.

The glass had broken and on a correspondence with albert in Rosewood or something rose ?? Well somewhere near Brisbane.

Albert agreed to send me a replacement glass.
I was delighted and the glass arrive and I fitted the glass to lamp , lifted the handle to admire lamp with glass and to my utter disbelieve the glass just exploded !! All that way and all that time ,so I sold lamps some time later !!

Sorry Albert did not have the heart to tell you before !!

    I have a Handi that I haven't fettled.

I love the way a Queensland Company persisted in referring to its product as "All British" when it was made (at least substantially) in Australia. Oh, the pining for the Empire!

I'll PT you Matty, I think I know someone who might want that Handi.

I too thought much the same as yourself Tony. Perhaps the owner had English roots or perhaps they felt the public felt more likely to buy a product labelled as British.
