Having carelessly blown up a mantle on one of my Coleman 214s, I fitted a Peerless 2C-HG to give it a try. My second 215 has a Kookaburra 2SL mantle (the same as the one I blew up): The lamp on the left is the one with the Peerless 2C-HG, the one on the right the Kookaburra: Peerless: Kookaburra: I like the Peerless (Yttrium) mantle. It gives a warm light, but I prefer the longer sock mantle on these lamps. I think the Peerless 2C-HG would be good on a Coleman 229 like this one: Coleman 229 (1996) Cheers Tony
Very interesting Tony - I have seen plenty of Kookaburra mantles at markets etc but have always passed as thought they were no good....obviously they are excellent mantles!! Probably should buy a few of the odd brands that turn up and do a trial run on them like you have. Thanks for the info. Cheers Peter
I've posted one of the Peerless 2A mantles on a Coleman 242B in the Reference Gallery here: Coleman 242B 1938 (Canadian) Tony
Given my trial of the Kookaburra S2L, I thought tonight that I would try a Kookaburra S1 on a recently acquired Coleman 214A700: The end result is a golf ball sized mantle. I like it on these lanterns! Here are my chooks by the light of a Coleman 214A700 with a Kookaburra S1 mantle: Cheers Tony
Tony . I use Shields S2 on those lamps They shrink down to a big golf ball shape and give out a bright light to . Kookaburra mantles bit hard to find now as most stores don't stock mantles anymore . Bob .
Bob I also have a good supply of Shields; but not the S2... only the long ones. I use them on my Aladdins and Austramaxes. I really like the Shields because they are very tough and easy to tie in the field - especially when you have cold fingers! Cheers Tony
