Was after opinions on whether or not this tripod could be considered a Tilley or not. I have seen tripods with the dome before but most have the flat swivel. Both top and bottom are domed. The extra brace on the front does not look original but is not a bad idea all the same. The height of the brace is obviously much shorter. Be keen to know if these have been seen outside of Australia and New Zealand. If they have I can rule out the Kayen possibility. (yer I know, always making Kayen possibilities)
Hello Anthony. Having seen photos of the Tilley England Tripod which have a casting head on the tripod unlike yours .Yours is welded up style which looks similar style to your track stands cut and welded etc . This could be a Kayen tripod ? Bob .
David, I thank you very much. I was expecting you to come back saying you had plenty of them. You never know what to expect with lamps. Bob, I think I know the pictures you are talking about and no doubt just not the same thing. Adding a few more pics. The green stand came with a BT25A (LPG) but I'm assuming it is about the same as the Tilley stand. They both extend to about the same height, 7ft vertically, but the bolts on the legs are very much lighter. I am sure I have seen one like this before but can't remember where. ---Any input from other Kayen fans would be great---
Well I would certainly class myself as a Kayen fan, but not having a CL8 or even having seen one "in the flesh", I can't help much. There is a strong possibility that it is a Kayen item or at least a home (company) made job. I'm pretty sure it's not Tilley.
Hi ! Here in England Tilley seemed to have given the industrial side of their lamps to a company called BULLFINCH after moving to Northern Ireland. A lot of collectors over here have tripods but precious few are geniuine tilley with a steel peg pulled out of each leg attached by a chain and inner leg then free to travel up or down to next hole. I have been collecting for 23 years and still have not seen one to buy ! How ever I have various variations on tripods by Bullfinch or maybe its bullfinch / Tilley . End of 50's early sixties gas bottle lamps picking up in sales . Non of these tripods were marked but are still relatively easy to find. When I was in Australia the amount of ironmongery I found or saw that I reckonised as being available back home here in England surprised me a lot ! So its possible Bullfinch had a presents or existence in your country. The pic you show of green tripod is very Bullfinch looking ! Maybe Bullfinch gave up in Australia and someone else took them over , so any variants you find in Australia may well have the original source of ownership ! mick
Maybe I'm missing something but as far as I can recall, all my Tilley tripods meet that description. I'll have to check tomorrow...

I forgot to check mine but seeing the photograph, I remembered at least one of my tripods has a similar screw arrangement but with tommy-bar rather than a wingnut. I'd assumed that it was a Tilley development as the chains tend to rust through and the pins get lost...
