Just thought I'd introduce myself. My addiction to g.p.a.s now spans the Atlantic, as it started with Coleman Canada lanterns, lamps and stoves, and now extends to Tilley. I am the proud owner of a nice FL6 with the original tripod, and just acquired an OL50 that needs some work (and the bleeder on the fuel cap, so advice on parts appreciated!), and an AL21. These in addition to a full range of Coleman Canada offerings, and the odd thing out of Wichita. This is my third GPA forum, the others being the CCF and True North (TNCGPA). Looking forward to getting to know you all.
That filler cap does not have a bleed valve. It is an inlet fitting for a cycle pump. A standard Tilley pump has the right size cap but is too long to fit inside the tank of a do nut. You therefore need to unsolder the end fitting from a normal pump and solder it into the inside of the cap. Then you need to solder on either an old style cycle valve or maybe a schrader valve threaded part to the outside of the cap. If you can find an old cycle valve the end result will look almost the same as the real thing. ::Neil::
I'm guessing by 'old style cycle valve' the reference is to the Woods type? And not the Presta. A description with images: http://tinyurl.com/pj2ffja
Welcome aboard Angus! Did you find the OL50 in Canada? I've always suspected that Canada may have a hidden cache of Tilleys since it's a Commonwealth country. Al South of the Border in Pennsylvania
Yes Tilley used the older Dunlop style shown in that image. You just need to find a good older cycle repair shop and blag a couple of old scrap inner tubes because all you want is the steel threaded tube. ::Neil::
