Hi All, Having had it easy with my first lamp, a Bialaddin 300X I should have realised the next one would be tricky! I'm trying to take the lamp apart to change washers, and unlike my first lamp which was in better nick and came part easily, having removed the vapouriser, the jet cleaner control does not want to come away from the fount. There is a 2-3 mm rim on top of the fount.Does it screw into that or does that undo? I've tried 3-1 oil to ease things up, but I want to avoid brute force for fear of shearing something off....any suggestions.?I am also anxious about bending the turning arm if I use too much force Thanks in anticipation.Siatbury
Hi. Having recently bought eight more Bialaddin lamps for use as spares I have recently come across this problem myself. I used a basic adjustable spanner so it was just wide enough to go round the body of the pricker knob mounting. When twisted the bulk of the twisting force went onto the main nut of the Knob attachment. I could then put on quite a force without fear of breaking things. The body unscrews from the fount in the traditional direction, i.e. anticlockwise to loosen. Hope this helps.
Remove the knob, wrap the valve assembly in a thick cloth and stick in a vice, then just turn the tank. It should come out easily... These things should never be that tight, but previous owners often over tighten these things when there are leaks instead of replacing the washer. There is no need to ever tighten them down too much.
Hi both, Thanks for the advice. After posting I tried the pressure test in a bucket of water- no bubbles. So I decided that maybe I was trying to dissasemble the lamp and change washers because I felt I should?Lit up for a first time and it runs beautifully. Do experienced lamp fettlers such as yourselves subscribe to the 'if it ain't bust dont fix it principle" or should I take it apart and change washers cos If I leave it it will never come apart! Except where there are lead washers, which doesn't apply to yours, I generally replace all the washers as a matter of course unless they are obviously new to start with. That way I know exactly were I stand with all my lamps, at least as far as the washers go. I always flush the tank a few times too.. You just never know what a previous owner has had in there and the last thing you want is to clog the lamp up the first time you use it.
