I bought a Hasag 65 wall lamp in Egypt but the spirit dish is burned away at one end. Does anybody know where I can buy another?

I shall also need a glass for it, anybody know what will fit under the three fixing screws?

Maybe you would be kind enough to suggest where I might look, David?

    Dear Jim,

Do you have any idea how old these lamps are ?
Why would there be an address where you can buy parts ? Most lamp shop are gone for many years now.

But there is a solution, schott glass works mostly keeps the original molds in stock. So write them and ask if they want to make a batch.

THanks, Wim, that might be an idea but I have seen a couple of other common lamps that use the same size globe and whose globes are available in suppliers lists.I reckon the lamp dates from around 1938? Certainly there are suppliers of globes for other makes of this sort of age!

 I tried to upload a picture of the alcohol reservoir that I need but it does not seem to be visible. What did I do wrong?

    Jim.

Ok, It's there now! The reservoir is the "V-shaped" thing on the left side. Does anybody know of a similar reservoir that I might be able to order somewhere?

It is attached to a tube which passes through an oval plate which has 2 screw oles, there is a nut and bolt in each hole which fixes the plate to the main frame.

THe oval plate is on the far side of the reservoir and is not visible. I suppose the tube, which is about 10 mm diameter, is used to fill and light the alcohol.

You have the tubes ? So all you need is the actual meths tray ?

This is the knob I was referring to....

    1446308127-image.jpg

Looks almost identical to Karli's (in the LRG), Mmmm I wonder :-k

If you want it, PM me your address, it needs a little straighten ok

    Cheers

    Guys,

That knob is not original. Age wise is should have a pressed paper knob with or without the pointer on it.

Jim can't you repair the pre heater cup ?

I don't see my reply, so here it is again!
This is the knob I need. If you tell me how much you want (with postage to Luxembourg) I will send it to you via Paypal (if you can accept that). I took a photo of the meths tray but I'm having trouble reducing the file size, let's have another go!
OK, that seems to be working! Which tubes did you mean? I have all the vaporiser tubes.

Wim, I guessed it was not original but it will do the job ok. Do you have pictures of the original setup?

    Regards,

    Jim.

I guess I could repair the meths tray in an emergency but I think it will need silver soldering because of the temperature and it would be hard to hold all the bits together to get the flame to it!

What is the diameter of the part where the globe goes?

You can have the knob, just reimburse me the postage, I'll let you know what that is when I've posted it

If you get real stuck finding a meths tray, I could probably machine a new one from brass billet but this one won't be a freebie
The tube I was referring to is in your pic, so you can simply de solder that one and resolder it to the new tray ?

    Cheers

It's not easy to measure, but I reckon it is 13.5mm

Yes, I could do that but it is welded on, so it would probably be easier to buy a bit of brass tubing and solder it on, I think soft solder would resist the temperatures the tube might reach.
I have a milling machine, so I could probably make one myself but I am no expert at this sort of work!

    Hi Jim

If you have a mill, then you may well be able to save yourself some cash by making your own ! Though machining is only one way to achieve this (I'm a machinist before a fabricator) , fabricating sheet steel/brass is another, probably a more popular option , Plenty of members here have a bash at these challenges and quite often win ! Whether it be a 'Bodge' or a half decent job. Postage to Luxembourg is expensive (I've looked at posting you that red knob) and it's not cheap.
Have a go Jim , keep us posted on your progress, and if it doesn't work out, we can help you out I'm sure
    I would be more confident 'Hard/Silver Soldering' that tube to the new meths tray , meths does generate some heat :shock: think it would soon melt soft solder =;

    Leave it with ya ;)

Hi, Man (I don't know what I should call you!),
I would like to try milling one from a billet but I would not know how to get the proportions right. The two legs are more or less at right angles to each other but where do I set my references?
I agree that silver solder would be safer and I have a gas welding set, so I can do that. The postage for the knob in a bubble bag should be about £8, I had a complete Bialaddin 315 sent here for £15 a couple of months ago. I will go to the local merchant and buy a billet of brass, you've convinced me!

Good man  keep us posted ok

thought £8 was expensive myself :-k that's with me gifting you the thing ! guess that's cos I'm a tight 4r$e

Most of my mills are CNC so the 'referencing' isn't an issue for me  it'll be a nice job to think about on a manual mill though, please follow this up with some pics Jim O:)
You've got us interested now  and would be great to see this up and running

    Cheers

OK, I'm used to paying £8 for little packets, it's when people are asking £95 to post a Tilley Guardsman to me that I start to give them a nasty answer! (it has happened!)I might well do it on my Mill, it will be a nice experience! And it will be a nice strong Meths shelf, I do not need to make the walls thin, 2mm will be plenty!
It might be a few weeks before I get round to it, I have a Petromax to restore first. The Hasag cost me 40Euros and the Petromax cost 30 Euros in the soukhs in Luxor, Egypt. I had to dismantle them and pack them in my suitcase!

    Best wishes,

    Jim.

Yep, that would get my goat up too :rage:
Not likely round here though Jim, thankfully [-o<

Out of interest, what mill do you have ?
