Hi everyone, yet another mystery lantern. No markings, no names. Looks American to me.....but there's just something about it that doesn't seem right. Particulay the way the collar has been cut for the control wheel and the venting on the hood seemes to have of poor finish. What do you all think...
I've been through the American and UK galleries but can't find anything that is a match. A few similar but not quite the same
I said to Anthony earlier, via email, that the lamp mharron wants to know the name of looks a lot like lamps I've seen in old Trove advertisements BUT I couldn't remember it's name. Storm King is the one I was trying to think of. I'd be surprised if this wasn't a NuLite of some description.
Bob, Nulite No.2 is a two mantle lantern. This is a single mantle lantern with the same kind of burner as the Storm King. However there are some manufacturer that seems to have been copying the Storm King, so it might still very well be another brand than Nulite. HASAG 100 look similar too, for instance. But perhaps that one just simply is a rebadged or possibly licence made Storm king.
Assuming he found it in NZ it's more likely to be from this part of the world or at least sold in this part of the world. Storm King may or not have been sold in NZ but they were in Australia. It's possible that once bought in Australia it moved to NZ with it's owner.
It's a Nulite Storm King so Nulite model 1 or 100. Single mantle torch lighting with a rod operated pricker at the top of the generator. ::Neil::
Thanks Neil. It will be moved to the correct gallery as soon as I fixed those images. (faulty extension, so they can't be properly inserted in the post as it is now).
Thanks everyone, I knew it was American! mystery incorporated solve another mystery.....would have gotten away with it, too, if it wasn't for you meddling kids!!! I see there are no other model 1 in the gallery so my pick is this is reasonably rare. And yes Tony, you are correct this was found in NZ. Thanks again guys your level of knowledge is truely amazing and very appreciated.
