G'day to all those across the ditch.

Or, those that have been lamp hunting/collecting across the ditch.

I'd expect that over the last 100 years or so, many of the lamps that are found in Australia would also be found in New Zealand.

I was hoping that those that live in or have been to New Zealand would know of the most popular lamp brand found there.

I suspect Tilley would head the list.

    Hi Matty,

Definitely Tilley and Coleman at the top of the list. I have seen the odd Aida, Alladin, Primus and Optimus, Hipolito but these are not so common to find although Aida 250 and Opti 930's probably more than the others and a few very old Ameican lanterns from the 20's.

    Thanks for the info mate.

Have you come across any hollow wire stuff for sale? Wizard, Gloria?

Kayen? I thought perhaps Kayen may have marketed their line in NZ.

I've thought that because of the NZ climate that you may see more Tilley R1 type heaters than we see here in Australia. It's not that they are exactly scarce here, I just thought they may of sold well in NZ because of the cooler climate.

Tilley heaters a very common and you come across them all the time on TradeMe. Never seen Kayen. The American lanterns I mentioned have all been hollow wire type. I have two Akron and Nagel

Keep looking for Gloria as I found this export manifest from 1934. There may be other times they were exported to NZ but I found this manifest whilst looking for other stuff not related to exports.

If you're lucky you may find a Kerona.

I found a Kitson in Australia. I knew they were sold there. Not sure if they were also sold in New Zealand.

    Oh you said typically

    Typically - topically :)

Kitson were sold extensively in Australia in the early 1900's.

Mostly commercial stuff I believe, street lamps etc.

I even saw an article where Lux set up a street lamp as a trial to prove their ability.
