Hi all I picked up a 930 today in pretty good Nick but I have a few questions :- I have been researching the site for info and many people talk of using a 200 jet so I checked the jet in mine and it is marked. 102 -------- 28 It may be 402 does either make sense to anyone? The other concerns the mantle what do I use and from where do I get some assuming the jet is correct? I also read that it's essential to check the J tube is clean does the ceramic burner unscrew from the brass carrier and the carrier from th tube? Thanks for your help Nick
First up, congratulations on finding a nice little lantern. A favourite of many. The jet is from Radius and is a 200cp jet. The 102 is the model number of their 200cp lantern and 28 is the number they gave to all jets. The mantle to use is a bulb shaped type of around 250 to 300cp. Yes, the parts you mention do unscrew but can be very stuck sometimes. Be careful with the ceramic flame spreader as the threaded section can break. Any other questions just ask.
Hi Nils Thanks for that information on the jet. I just need to locate the correct mantle people seem to suggest a 250 cp? What do you think. Any suggestions as to a source, Nick
I assume you're in the UK so I would suggest Base Camp. Apart from that you can find mantles on ebay. Brand is not that important, except you can get varying quality of light. I've had reasonable success with buying cheap mantles on ebay except sometimes I have to use a size larger than what they are specified as. It takes a bit of trial and error. I see Base Camp have a 200cp Veritas mantle (3776) which should be alright with the 200cp jet fitted.
Thanks Nils I must admit to avoiding Base Camp because of their ordering system and despatch times which can be very slow I will try eBay I presume they are single tie mantles? Nick
Nice find there nmp. I got two of em myself. One mint never fired and another in mint but fired condition. Very nice lamps and yes, its singel tie mantels you need.
I have fired it up with no mantle and had a nice blue flame for a while but after a few minutes I had a flare up and had to release the pressure to get it to go out any ideas? I no globe on or hood. Nick
Hi Nick, I also like to test some of my lanterns without mantle as it is a good way to make certain combustion is OK. I never let them burn to long sans mantle as I think the vapouriser will cool down to much this way (remember, the heat of the mantle keeps the vap hot enough to do its job) . Maybe that's what happened with your Optimus? Best regards, Wim
Wim It did cross my mind that it was not staying hot enough. I have ordered some mantles that should arrive in a couple of days so I will just have to be patient. Nick
