There is a Type 'A' pressure Lamp on a BIN in the usual place, apart from the asking price, which is over a 164 pints of Guinness!!! It states that it has a serial # 748, which would fall in line with Mackburner's comment in the Reference Gallery that a possible 1000 were produced. Stunning Lamp, with a good selection of photo's to go with it. Well worth a look.

    Nice lantern though.
Is the rapid a "flame thrower" or "fill her up" type ?
In the last case it misses something in the cup ?

Not sure myself. Time for Mr. Mackburner to spread his wisdom once again. I believe he owns the same model.

The second picture shows the preheat flame is very gentle rather than a flame thrower.

Showing the preheater that is stored in the tank and primed with spirit.
Air is blown through the middle to only slightly increase the flame getting to the generator and I tend to give it 2 goes to preheat enough to light.
These are a tough and heavy lantern that give out a surprisingly bright light.

So I assume that the cup holds a hollow wick, similar to a Willis Bates, or is the cup 'lightly stuffed', with the air flowing through it?

All is clear. I was posting as you were. Thank-you. Where does the air come from? I am intrigued by it.

The cup does have a wick and mesh.
I could not see the wick looking at it but it shows well in the pic.

The air come from the pressure in the tank and is controlled by the black dial.
The pick up come from the top of the tank to draw air instead of fuel.

Fairly rare beast. Terry Marsh has 22 of them documented including this one. It has been offered three times now but not sold presumably because the asking price is too high.

Complicated, way over engineered and in some ways out dated when it was sold in 1934. No pricker and an evil thing to light. The generator passes through the mica globe so you can't remove the globe without removing the generator first. Heavy beast too but very bright and once running quite reliable. I have had mine at Ipswich a few times and it has always run for around 6 hours without any bother. ::Neil::
