I have an X246B with what appears to be a loose spindle on the control cock. If you take off the black plastic knob you can feel a lot of play in the spindle and when the tank is under pressure there is seepage and air bubbles around the spindle. Is there any way of tightening up the spindle at all?

Don't think so. Have you tried replacing the spindle packing washer?

The seepage would be because the packing washers are spent.

Take the knob off, unscrew the packing nut, dig or burn out the old packing washers and replace (Tilley always said replace with two).

Adjust the packing nut to tight finger-tight, and Robert's your father's brother.

    Cheers

The gland packing washers (Part No 234 for X246A and B series / 'old' 234 to end of X246 series) will be found in the SP1 and (old) 498 service packs. Tilley supplied two and according to the illustration, both were meant to be fitted. However, that's generally held to be bad engineering practice and I've never, ever, found two washers in situ when I've dismantled a control cock gland. One washer always seems to suffice.

Mostly, they seem to have been replaced by O-rings these days e.g. in the Fettlebox kits. Hope that helps...
