Does anybody know how many versions or types of burners were fitted to the X246 series of Lanterns? I think that there were at least 3, but what do I know.
Try looking at the mixer chamber cap. I have found two different sizes in the original burner, plus the latest burner. Length is measured with the cap fitted to the burner body.
There were a few variations of the one main theme. The original 246s have the 218 burner with the larger dome for the burner tube (Part 211) which has a patent number stamped on it. The steel injector tube (Part 212) is longer than subsequent variations. These burners had three air tubes (Part 709) which are threaded at both ends to take the screw-on gallery bush (Part 2200). The later version of the No. 218 burner had a smaller dome for the burner tube and a shorter steel air injector. Subsequently, on the X246Bs, the air tubes with the threaded bush were replaced by two straight air tubes and one with a bush held in place by a split-pin. Usually all parts except the steel injector tube, were brass, but I have one that has steel airtubes. Tony
