You may have seen these briefly last week, but as they were part of a live auction they were quite rightly taken down. Anyway, what do we think for £33.60 delivered? A late Vapalux 300 and a Coleman 168K 'Regal', do ignore the thing on the end, I am. Now I need a pump and a shade, but it won't be the one called Sunshine...
Well, you all like the glass then! It does seem to have period correct markings, let's hope it arrives in one piece. I never thought I would have a Coleman table lamp in my collection. The Vapalux should be salvageable, might need some high build primer after I've dealt with the rust.
Well I'd be happy with it, too - a nice little haul! (apart from the abomination on the right, as you say. ) The Vapalux 300 isn't actually one of the last - they had a multi-holed hood which survived the transition into Bialaddin just after the war. It should restore well...
The Colemans do make nice table lamps, and they are easily fitted with a shade when you have the glass (nice glass) in place. Don't give up on it! I have several and they can be fun.
Al, no, I won't give up on it, it's the reason I bought the lot! David, I meant to say that it was one of the last of the war-time 300s, but, yes, I do still have a gap between this one and my Bialaddin 305 to fill.
Just a note of caution for anyone planning to buy from a High House Interiors online auction, which is where the above lot was bought. It took them three weeks to ship the lamps and in the five weeks since then there have been no updates to the tracking and no help from High House to track down the lamps.
Nice score, HD! It is quite easy to make a suitable pump. 20mm copper pipe and end caps, an old brass grease nipple and a cheap modern Coleman pump kit. Mine works best with a bit of rubber tubing on the nozzle.
Re-read the last post Phil. It was a nice score, but it seems the courier has lost it and the auctioneer isn't being very helpful. Thanks for the makeshift pump idea though, I have an Akron Diamond 102G I'm fettling and I need a pump of some sort until I find an original. HD
Don't give up yet, keep pushing! If it was their courier you should be able to get a refund from them. Never heard of couriers losing packages over here. That only happens with untracked post office items!
Having worked for a courier company, a parcel should only 'go missing' if the address label with barcodes comes adrift or is illegible. But even then they should know roughly where it is. Parcels are scanned during their journey. Where the audit trail stops, should be where the parcel is. The whole point of using a tracked courier system is that you can find missing parcels. Demand the tracking number and courier details from the auction house. Then ask the courier company for an audit trail printout. Don't let them fob you off. They WILL have the parcel, but they need a kick up the backside to make an effort to find it. The more fuss you make, the harder they will try. Demand to speak to a supervisor, then a manager. Terry
Phil, that was a pretty clever way to make a pump! I might copy that just for the fun of it. Perhaps use an acid-proof SS tube instead since it's closer to the original nickel plating when polished.
Yes, call me suspicious but my money would be on the auction house never having passed this to a courier for delivery...
...Had an ebay item go missing 2 yrs ago through Hermes, when I phoned them they said because of a confidentiality clause I had to pursue it through the seller... ..He just kept saying they'd collected it and if Hermes said they'd delivered it that was that... My hands were tied so had to claim with paypal ... Got the money refunded but was unable to track the parcel, so someone got a free gift.... ..Had 3 other things go missing last 6 months, Royal Mail, Shiply, other unknown...
Terry, I have access to the detailed tracking and it's interesting to say the least and perhaps it lends credence to something another poster said. However, the tracking does sort of state the lamps were collected and as they have not been delivered all I will say for now is that the the lamps were lost by the courier. Whatever the facts, I will go about getting my money back and recommend that everyone give High House Interiors who sell via the Saleroom a wide berth.
Perhaps I've missed something - who is it? I can't say I've had anything but good service from the various couriers sellers have used to send stuff to me - Herpes and DPD, lately. Just last week I had a soundbar delivered and was given a one-hour timeslot, between 1701 and 1801 and it arrived 1703. That was DPD. No complaints from me...
When I've bought items from auction houses before I've used Mailboxes Etc for packing and shipping and they seem to be pretty good. Not cheap mind you.
James, As High House Interiors offered a packing and shipping service for a modest price I chose to use that. Regardless of what happened to my lamps. It is the very poor customer service that prompts me to advise people not to use High House Interiors.
