I havn't seen one with a decal on the fount before. Did all the 282x lanterns originally come with one? It's also an interesting glass.
Hello Nils! Some 2827 lanterns are marked with metal label riveted to the frame, but most of 2827 have this decal. Unfortunately it's hard to find one in a nice condition. I haven't seen this kind of decal on other military Petromax lanterns. Glass was bought separately in original box. It was made for export to some Arab speaking country, as it's marked "petromax" in Arabic. I would date it as circa 1939, so it would be historically correct to set this glass with a war time lantern. Piotr
Thanks for the explanation Piotr. The 2827 turns up every now and then here in Denmark, but the ones I have seen have all been with the metal label on the collar. Not that I've seen that many.
The original rare Rapid lever and the hand wheel aindicate that this Petromax 2827 was manufactured in 1939/40. Regards Reinhard
The zinc preheater lever (Löffelrapid) was also used with the lanterns manufactured from 1945 - 1950 in VEB Graetz / VEB Fernmeldewerk Treptow, as our documents show. The lantern above appears to show a lever that was not made of zinc. However, it does not appear to have been replaced at some point, so I assume it is original. Maybe it is a similar stopgap solution like the iron lower part of the vaporizer.
Stopgap solutions such as the iron lower part of the vaporizer are visible contemporary witnesses.Important for the chronological classification of the pressure lamps.
