Looks like somebody had weak hands and had the extra bits put on and rechromed or some body worked at the factory and had it styled for himself. Bob
Could it have been a modification in the cold war era, for civil defence purposes ? So as to facilitate removing and then re-fitting the pump whilst wearing thick gloves, such as might have been worn to protect against gas attack or fallout. More likely to be needed for a storm lantern than for a table lamp, but of course a table lamp might have been used in an office or control room. Or the pump may be from a storm lantern. Manipulating the standard control cock whilst wearing thick gloves would be a challenge, but that could also have been modified perhaps by fitting a larger knob made for some other purpose.
All pure speculation. Interesting to understand why perhaps but more important is who made it. With Tilley when odd bits like this turn up there are always two posibilities. One is it was made by Tilley for a one off contract order. The other is an aftermarket mod by a single owner. Looks very professional but you have to remember that some Tilley owners would have been engineers perhaps working in a machine shop with the facilities to do a first class job like this including the plating. ::Neil::
