When I first joined CPL I suggested a safety warnings list. As we now have a new category for Repro Corner I feel it's time we had a separate Category for "Safety information" accessible to all which should include posts such as :- http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/3488 http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/552 How do others feel on this subject
I agree, safety warnings are important, especially for new or less experiences members. Parrafin is now much less used than in years gone by, and outside of specialist forums like this is, the fuel is almost unheard of. Petrol is known only as automotive fuel. Most of the general population under about 40 have probably never seen a lit oil lamp, pressure or wick type. Fewer still have ever used one. BTW, both links given above are not available to ordinary members. I can see the merits of some areas of the forums only being viewable by those who have paid for a subscription, but surely safety related information should be viewable by all.
I think we need feedback from the founders re the Articles section. It can be made open to all with their consent while leaving the uploaded literature sections subscriber only. New section though? How many safety warnings are we expecting? We could sticky safety related articles in their current sections. Founder members - can we have your opinions please?
I think all the safety related articles are mine. There are maybe 5 and of those perhaps 2 or 3 that could or even should be made available to all. Maybe some or all of them could be taken out and either published in a seperate safety section or perhaps one or two added as stickys in the discussion forum. I think a subscriber only section is essential because subscribers are what funds the site and keeping the articles as subscriber only is right. Making safety info available is also the right thing to do. Stickys or new section makes no difference to me. ::Neil::
I agree that safety info should be available to all, even guests. Any lamp related accident affects us all, no matter where it is. I'm not sure that all the safety warnings are articles. Some have just been advice in normal posts. Maybe we don't need a separate section but at least a way of referencing them.
