    Hi All
This is my latest aquisition an AL15
This is a lamp I have wanted for a good while now.
As you can see it needs a hood and a mica shade but it is otherwise in good shape. The pump works fine, the vapouiser seems ok and it holds pressure.

Any help or advice on the restoration would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

    Ozzy

I think it has a burner for an AL21 as it does not have the pin to hold the mica shade. Not surprising as London Transport would swap parts around from different models. Part of the lamp's history really. Are you going to try to make a hood for it?

The pin has been broken off James . I intend to drill it out and fit a replacement
And yes I am going to make a hood for it.
The tricky part would be the back of the hood which is a covex shape . I have an old steel pan lid that should do the job.
I'll try to post some progression pictures

Hi Ozzy, I may be wrong but I think the pins were only ever brazed on, rather than being drilled in. I think that's why most get broken off. Of all those burners I've got, only one has the pin in place.

Thanks Matthew. That will make a nice little brazing exercise then

I have replaced these pins a couple of times and it is easier to drill a slightly undersized hole and then taper off a piece of brass rod and tap it in. I guess you could ad a dab of silver solder but it works OK without. ::Neil::

    Thanks Neil
The belt and braces approach sounds good to me

Dimensions change a bit depending where you measure from but you would expect that I guess..

The mica shade I have is 96mm tall by 84mm diameter.
Length of pin for shade on burner is 32mm.
