I am being told by the UK supplier of these lamps that they are German. I understood that they were made in China, can you confirm where Mannesmann lamps are made please.
They where made in China. In Germany is no Pressure Lamp manufacturing. Only Petromax assembled their Chinese Lamps in Germany.
The company "Brüder Mannesmann" is a tool retailer in Germany, selling mostly cheap scrap (made in China) that you can find in discounters and home improvement stores. See their website: http://www.br-mannesmann.de/ So I believe that this lantern is a chinese import, probably Anchor or the like. BR, Martin
Ah! Maybe thats what my lamp is then? Perhaps if the sticker had fallen off or been removed? Although there is a slight difference in the hood Bah! pb
Had it somwhere in my mind, but now came up: One of possible Chinese manufactures is Kaiping Silveray Metal And Plastic Products Company Limited: http://ksmappcl.en.china.cn/About-Us/ You'll find some information on the web when you google this company. BR, Martin
Thanks Martin! Wow thats a big world out there The Yangzhou Hurricane Lanterns Co Ltd (Petromax) The Yangzhou Kerosine Stoves Co Ltd The Suzhou Baofeng hardware and Tools factory (Gold Anchor) i think i'll stop there.... pb
Yes I looked at these a couple of years ago..I ended up with a 'Westfalia' badged unit in the end, exactly the same but all just a re-badged Chinese copies despite their Germanic sounding names. Its a pretty good selling angle if you can pursued customers they are something there not. Petromax finished German production in the 70's swapping manufacturing to Portugal along side Hipolito and then to China.
In the past I've had a couple of Anchors (via eBay for £2.50 and, I hasten to add, bought for the glass globes and to pull apart to see how they worked) which came with a 'Blacks of Greenock' label. I've no idea whether they're still in business or not. Otherwise, these cheap Petromax clones seem to come up all the time on eBay and that may be your best source of supply... Edit: It would seem that Blacks of Greenock are still in business... Blacks of Greenock ...but a quick search of the website didn't turn up any lanterns.
Hi folks. Looks very similar to the Sea Anchor. Available in the UK from Conrad Electronics, however at the price I would plump for a Petromax. Kerosene lamp Brüder Mannesmann Starklichtlampe Stainless steel 1 pc(s) from Conrad Electronic UK Edit: link to Petromax prices in UK: Petromax Regards Jeremy
Wait... Petromax are cheaper than Chinese knock-offs? That's crazy! I nearly had myself a cheap one in really good condition but the guy wouldn't except PayPal so I declined. I guess I'll keep looking.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think you may find that the 'Petromax' is also a Chinese 'knock-off'. However, at least it's got a brass tank as opposed to the Mannesmann which has a steel tank...
The add says it is nickel plated, so what parts are stainless and what is the rest made of? Ah well, the add states it has a "stainless look"! Basically it would all be plated steel. A few years ago I saw these for sale at less than half that price! Sure, someone on this forum must have bought one and can tell us more about them??? (Come on, don't be shy!) Best regards, Wim
IIRC, it said the colour of the Mannesmann was "stainless steel" - only the colour, not what it was made from... Edit: Yes:- A bit sneaky that...
Hi David, I was editing my post a little while you wrote yours. Indeed, "colour", not material.......
That is so underhand and sly..its probably going to test the trade description act? So actually nothing on the Mannesmann is stainless? It just looks a stainless colour.... which is a joke
