I didn't take a before pic, but it was just a lot of dirt, dust and mouse droppings. The burner was packed full of Mud Wasp nests. I got lucky with the vaporizer, as its a great runner after a seal lit, and cleaning.. Now I need to find the right color gray for the fount that fuel resistant. Whats with the preheat cup stand?
That's just so you can lower the cup for filling and raise it for heating. Quite nifty, I always thought. These lanterns are common enough that you should not feel duty bound to stick with the silver metallic fount colour. Even the factory is making them in a variety of bright colours now. The red hood does perhaps limit your choices, though. If you want to go for the "better than new" look, the aluminium frame can look very good when polished on a polishing wheel. Careful it does not get grabbed by the cloth wheel, though. And aren't they just amazingly easy to work on. Gotta love them...
Ok.... Now I feel foolish. I hadn't seen this type of pre-heat cup before. and it is a bear to get alcohol in it. I really like the Bialaddin and Vapalux. Only a few minutes to complete rebuild. And just the right amount of light. Thanks for the info.
Well, the Korean factory is making the 320 in a range of colours. The Halifax factory didn't, to either the 320 or 315. The latter was available with a silver or (rather rarer) cream-coloured tank. Both of these came with a red hood. But I agree mostly and I'd just try to get a colour as near as possible to the original and not lose any sleep over any slight mismatch - the original paint has had around 50 years to fade with the sun and/or get discoloured with use...
Do a search using the little box top right of page for spirit bottle (make it easier to get spirit where you want it )
I am the worlds worst painter, as I have no patience. And I am too cheap to buy new paint when I have some on hand. But this will be a new user. Nice steady and quiet, even if its been painted by me.
