Hey all! I have a Turm L51 "tent" heater and in the instructions provided, it says that the flame turns blue after a while. However, I've never seen it do that. I only get an orange flame. Does anyone know why that is? I've included two photos of the heater, one apart, and the other of the flame inside. Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely heater and kept us warm and toasty one night last winter when the power went out, but I'm wondering if it's something I'm doing wrong... Thanks for any and all help!
I'd say that a flame spreader is missed there. I have got a similar heater and it has got a flame spreader which looks like a giant Aladdin one.
Thanks for the info guys. Is there anyway to GET a flame spreader for this type of heater? When I bought it, I thought it was complete (told it was anyway) but I guess it was missing a part. Juan, I've seen that one and I wondered why mine never looked like that. Now I know. Dang, now to hunt...
No idea where to buy it, on ebay I guess. Let's wait for somebody else's answer or ask here: Kerosene heater collectors, perhaps they know.
Jeff may be onto something with that Aladdin flame spreader. If the heater in question has a 3" wick(75mm), the Aladdin spreader might work. It all depends if the height of the spreader is in the correct position once it's inserted down to where it stops. If it fits it may have to be adjusted. Knowing where the 1st row of holes should be in relation to the top of the "gallery" where the wick exits is important. I have a mint Blue Flame built in the UK. These heaters have a "range" where they burn with no smell. The Aladdin directions state, "no yellow flame". This happens when the wick is to low or to high. There is some range of modulation, but not much. I found out the hard way about using the wick cleaner to much as well. This took the chill of my office last winter. Believe me, I needed it here on the "North Coast". Bob
