The weed treatment in my orchard got washed away by heavy spring rains. Now I have 1m/3' tall weeds enjoying the fertilizer that I put under my trees. I can't use a string trimmer close to young saplings, so I'll be spending time on my hands and knees using a hand sickle to cut the weeds down and pull them away. I'd rather be fettling a lamp. I'm just say'n. Neighbour Al
@Neighbor Al & @dwillie Forget about a propane weed burner. Try one of these: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/bering-flame-machine.34042/ Cheers Tony
@Neighbor Al & @dwillie In case you can't access the link above (CCS Members) here it is running: Cheers Tony
Gentleman, I failed to provide an honest description of the weeds. These weeds are of the Jurassic Park scale, with grass looking more like bamboo. Some have actually grown taller than my saplings. I fear I may need a compass to navigate through them! Honestly, you can't use a torch near a tree, and we're talking A LOT of wet thick prehistoric apocalyptic weeds. The pity is that when I tried to mow near them with the tractor I folded the weeds over with the rear wheels. Now I have to work on hands and knees to lift the trunks (seriously, TRUNKS) up to cut close to the ground. I've gone calling on my Amish neighbours looking for field help for a few days. BTW, I have 400 trees.
Before (May) and after (Yesterday) photos of what happens when the weed treatment is washed away by heavy rains
You the man Neighbor Al !! Straight up showing how you grow weed on your farm. Is the building in the back a grow room? Weed production is booming out here in California . Cultivation, grower collectives , planned combination wine and weed spas , all point to weed as growth industry.
We use similar tubes in this country but wrapped around the saplings to deter rabbits etc. eating the bark. I can't ever recall them being on the wires, though. I'm sure Al will be able to tell us soon - at least when he gets back home for his dinner after all that weeding! I had a similar situation with a Box hedge I planted last year which soon became completely overgrown with Couch grass. I sorted it out the other day because people kept telling me they couldn't see my balls for the weeds...
