    Hi All
I have just obtained from ebay a Petromax 350 rapid lamp. The lamp was quite cheap (£20) but has had some very poor repair attemps, other than that it is in very good condition. The preheater threaded insert has broken away from the fount and the repair attempt has left some bad scars to the nickel finish. I will probably have a number of questions as I progress with the rebuild but the first is about the filler gauge/cap, should this have a rubber seal? There appears to be no evidence of one being fitted, is it a taper fit seal? also where can I get the lead washers for the preheater are they the same as the 500cp version?
    Thanks in advance
    Peter.

    Hello Peter,

    Welcome!

Where are you? England I assume.

You can buy parts from Basecamp Link in Littlehampton West Sussex.

or from Pelam Link in Germany.

Part 90 is the lead washer and part 11 for the seal for the filler cap. Since you will be rebuilding the lantern a spare parts kit might be a good investment.

And yes it is the same as the 500.

    Cheers,
    Jeff

Thanks for the information. I am in the south east corner of England in the county of Kent. I have purchased parts from Base Camp and I know they sell parts for the Petromax lamp but I was not sure if the 350 and 500 had common parts.
Do you know what is contained in the spare parts kit?
    Thanks again
    Peter.

    Great question.

    1. China nozzle (Part number#3) £5.40
    3. Mantles (#4)
    2. Lead seals. May be rubber (#90) £ 0.95x2= 1.90
    1. Pump valve washer. May be lead or rubber (#83) £ 0.40
    1. Check valve cone with packing (#17) £ 0.75
    1. Cleaning needle (#68) £ 1.95
    1. Jet/nozzle (#50) £ 2.50
    1. Graphite packing for control valve. (#108) £0.95
    1. Check packing and screw for rapid preheater. (#229) £2.95
    1. Filler cap washer (#11) £ 0.82
    1. Pump leather (#46) £ 2.10
    1. Carburettor valve gasket (#193) £1.10
    1. Carburettor valve spring (#194) £0.51
    1. Carburettor valve jacket (#195) £2.20

You might not need all those parts but as you can see it is a good deal. If bought separately it would cost £23.53 not including the mantles. And with Petromax lanterns you will need the parts one day.

Check out this link too. Link

    Cheers,

    Jeff

Try Maidstone Angling. They used to supply parts fo all types of lamps and they may still have stock. ::Neil::

Thanks for the links. I have printed off the restoration article as it will be of great help.
I am going to the UK lamp and stove gathering this month, I think there will be a few people there selling spares? so I will wait till then and see what parts I can get.
