Good evening all, I've acquired what I believe to be a Tilley X246 lamp from my Nan: Please can someone confirm that I am correct about the exact model? I can also see that 360XA is stamped on the base. Does this mean that it's a 1960 model? Any further information would be much appreciated. Thanks, Chris
Hi Chris and welcome to the forum. Your lantern is indeed an X246 and the numbers indicate date of manufacture so 360 = March 1960. No one knows for sure what the letters (XA) mean. Henry.
Thanks Henry! I'm glad my research was correct I actually obtained this from my deceased grandmother and am debating restoring it in her memory but not sure if I have the skill, time or patience haha. It's a great lamp though so I think I'll see what I can do.
Yes, what's generally referred to as a Tilley X246 Guardsman (although Tilley had probably stopped using that name by then) to distinguish them from the X246 'pork-pies'. Yours is the later Guardsman with clips to attach the handle. The earlier Guardsmen with the dome tank had loops for attaching the handle and they are more desirable...
